DHL promotes tourism to Maharashtra Visiting overseas Managers participate in a unique Auto rickshaw challenge Mumbai, 10th March 2009 – DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, organized the first ever DHL Rickshaw Challenge for over 50 of its enthusiastic managers from South Asia Pacific and Europe. The visitors were in Mumbai to attend a high level South Asia Pacific/Europe Tradelane Summit. An extraordinary auto rickshaw Challenge was organized that gave the global visitors from DHL a unique local experience. Several rickshaws with four stroke CNG/Petrol engines were provided, with the actual owners teaching the DHL participants how to ride the black & yellow mini “shaws”. The teams picked up swiftly, and before long DHL executives zipped around deftly showing off their newly acquired skills. The event also saw interesting elements like slow skill driving and rickshaw ballet. Prizes were won for best choreography in a rickshaw ballet, trophies awarded to the winning team and certificates of participation were distributed much to the delight of all participants. “Piloting a 'rickshaw' is exhilarating. One moment, you almost felt certain danger...the next you're waving at the onlookers. Life in India is so rich in experience that it's overwhelming until you realize that all you can do is chart a path through it and wait for a new adventure to unfold” said Christoph Remund, Chief Executive Officer, DHL Lemuir Logistics. DHL expects India to become increasingly important as an export country into Europe with growth driven largely by the Apparels, Engineering & Manufacturing and Manufactured Goods sectors. The company has also launched the “DHL Fashion and Apparel Center for Excellence”, based largely in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, India, to facilitate trade within the region, Europe and North America.
