TOOL: Developing an Overview of Your Magnet Program
Purpose:
This tool will help stakeholders develop a shared understanding of your program’s background, goals, and components, to set the basis for identifying what you want to learn about your program. Consolidating this information will set a foundation for building your program’s theory of action and developing a logic model.
Instructions:
1. Complete the “Overview of Your Magnet Program” form using previous or existing magnet program documentation. 2. Use the checklist to identify overview information that various stakeholders still need to learn about the magnet program and brainstorm possible ways to communicate this information with them.

Overview of Your Magnet Program Background/History: What is the district’s experience with magnet schools or programs of choice? What local context has shaped your decision to put this program in place?
Identified Needs and Goals of the Project: What were the needs that led to this specific magnet focus in this/these school(s)? What are the goals of the project?
Magnet Program Components: What is your magnet theme? What curricular or instructional changes did the magnet program require? What professional development has been offered and to whom? How does your program reduce minority isolation? What is your recruitment or student assignment plan?
