Our design was inspired by the silkworm, how it weaves its silk and makes its nest out of it. It made us ask questions of what the benefits of this structure on a human scale are. So, we started designing mesh structures and adding light inside them. We realized that on a human scale structure any material that thin would not be beneficial to the structure. We transformed the ‘thread’ into a plastic structure, imitating the thread on a larger scale. This way we can the esthetic value of the silkworms’ nest and with added lights, it really feels like it is a warm, cozy home for any big large-scale silkworm (student) 😊 Our design really comes to life during the night time, where all our pods light up as cocoons would if they had lighting. Other than the aesthetic look, our design goal was to give this space meaning and for it to be a functional, usable space for our students. With our size variety, students can enjoy studying alone or socializing with other students in a space that looks like it came out of a movie.
