Louis Zamperini the man who defied the odds and was resilient through what seemed like insurmountable trials. After months of hardship filled with beatings and never having enough to eat or drink Louis was forced to hold a large six foot long wooden beam above his head or else he’d be beaten. Louis had been beaten numerous amounts of time during his time as a POW. It was already amazing how he was still able to stand if he was unable to hold the beam it could be devastating for Louis. Louis Zamperini is the perfect example of resilience his life was full of trials and hardships and he managed to defy the odds. From a young age Louis endured bullying and constant tormenting by his piers, his troubled life led him to smoking and drinking causing the people around him to belive he had no successful future in sight. Louis began track when his brother encouraged him to trying to help clean up his brothers slate. Louis had Pneumonia from smoking and drinking so he often took last in his races. But he kept on he didn’t let this dillema stop him he was resilient and worked through the pain until he became one of the best. He eventually broke the record for the fastest mile by a highschooler. Later in life Louis joined the military to fight for his country in WWII. He was in the U.S. Air Corps, on a search mission his plane had some mechanical error causing his plane to crash in the ocean killing 8 of the 11 passengers. Louis and 2 others were left stranded on a life boat with little food and water with no help around. He remained optimistic when they ran out of food and water they were resourceful and made tools to help them catch fish and even babysharks. Despite everything going wrong Louis held his head high and pushed through it. Finally Louis was saved from being stranded but he was found by the Japanese enemies at the time to the U.S. They captured him and kept him as a POW, he was beaten and starved for months. Again Louis was faced with what seemed and insurmountable challenge but despite all of that he was again resillient pushing through and never giving up hope. It was duing his time as a POW when one of his captures Mutsuhiro Watanabe put forth yet another challenge for Louis after months of hardship filled with beatings and never having enough to eat or drink Louis was forced to hold a large six foot long wooden beam above his head or else he’d be beaten. Louis had been beaten numerous amounts of time during his time as a POW. It was already amazing how he was still able to stand if he was unable to hold the beam it could be devastating for Louis. He struggled to even lift the beam, finally with great determination Louis got it above his head. He held his position for 37 minutes until Mutsuhiro, out of pure anger beat Louis anyways. Throughout his life Louis showed great resilience and optimism these traits would one day make him an american war hero.
