IDENTIFICATION Fully developed caterpillar is dark brown
coloured and about 3 to 4 CM in length. It has small hairs on body.
NATURE OF DAMAGE : The larval stage is the damaging stage
which has chewing and biting type mouth part . Initially the larva feed on bark. Larva this makes hole in the stem and branches. It is active in night.

IDENTIFICATION EGG:- The fly lays small, shiny whitish
cigar shaped eggs in small clustered just under the skin of the fruit with the help of her ovipositor and measuring 0.6 mm long. Each cluster may have 4 to 10 eggs. Female lays about 300 eggs in her life span. The hatching periods of eggs varied from 2 to 9 days.
LARVA:- They are white in colour and
measuring 1mm long. The larval period takes 7 to 8 days. Full grown maggot is 19 mm long and 2mm wide.
PUPA:- It is 11 segmented and 5.5 mm long with ligth yellow in colour. The pupal period generally lasts 6-7 days.
ADULT:- The fly is reddish-brown in colour with black and white spots. It measures about 7mm in length and 3mm in breadth. There are 3 brigth yellow stripes on the meta-thorax.

CONTROL : The ploughing of fields two to three times
reduces the pest population by exposing the pupae to enemies. Spray malathion 50 Ec/wp-2.0 lit. or 2.0 kg/ha. Spray carbaryl 50 wp-3.0 kg/ha.
