Yet, at a distance and with a proper disguise, deep ones may pass for humans, though they tend to have an awkward bearing and walk slowler than normal people. Deep ones are said to be the odious offspring of humans and horrors from the sea, although this has yet to be proved. In any case, as they grow older, deep ones assume more and more the appearance of a fishy humanoid, and eventually disappear into the depths of the oceans. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Deep One (mature) Size: M HD: 4d8 Move: 20 ft. (swim 40 ft.) AC: 17 Attacks: 2 claws for 1d6 each, bite for 1d4 Special: twilight and water vision; breath air and water. Saves: P Int: Average Alignment: Lawful evil Type: Aberration Treasure: none XP: 50 Deep ones are similar to many kinds of reptilians in that they never cease to grow. Hence, all lesser deep ones are bound to grow to mature size, at which time they will look unmistakably like fishy humanoids with a grotesque demeanor, and cannot disguise as humans anymore. Nonetheless, mature deep ones prefer to remain in the sea, and are rarely encountered ashore. Under the sea they are frequently found amidst antediluvian ruins. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Deep One (elder) Size: L HD: 8d8 Move: 30 ft. Type: Aberration Treasure: none XP: 600 Deep ones who survive the dangers of their environment long enough, continue to grow and thus could eventually become of tremendous sizes. An elder deep one is a horrendous kind of humanoid sea giant, with the features of a lizard and a fish. His claws are strong enough to tear apart sharks. Fortunately for mankind however, elder deep ones almost never come to the surface, unless in areas known to be sacred places to the worship of sleeping sea demons... Note otherwise, that were deep ones normally are subservient to their leaders and (unholy) deities, elder deep ones don't care for anyone else but those stronger than they are, and thus do not bow to any authority. Note that the elder deep one detailed here only represent the "most common" elder deep ones. There could be even bigger and more powerful individuals, up to 16 hit-dice... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
