DB2 UDB Fundamentals Duration: 1 or 2 days Participants: Managers, applications developers, IT personnel, and technical users who need an understanding of DB2 UDB applications and systems. Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to: - Describe the relational data model and explain how DB2 implements this model. - Explain the advantages and limitations of DB2, UDB (Universal Data Base), SQL (Structured Query Language), and QMF (Query Management Facility). - Describe the major steps involved in designing, implementing, and maintaining DB2 applications. - Understand the trade-offs involved in maintaining data integrity and security while optimizing performance in a DB2 UDB environment. - Identify applications development, end-user, and database administration tools available for DB2 UDB environments. Overview: This stand-alone course focuses on the features, capabilities, and environmental requirements of DB2 UDB. We recommend including hands-on workshops to enhance understanding of principles presented in the lecture. The focus is on OS/390 DB2 UDB. Prerequisites: An understanding of data processing and database fundamentals is helpful but not required. Format: Lecture and discussion with optional hands-on exercises.
