David Bailey To capture the pure essence and beauty of life, to tell a story, or to simply communicate an idea is the art of photography. It has been David`s natural talent and ability as a photographer to visually communicate that has garnered him the respect and recognition of his peers. Sometimes a small gift or thoughtful gesture can shape a person`s entire life. It was just such a moment that led David to the pursuit of his dream. As with most siblings, David wanted to emulate his brother. He longed to follow in his brother’s artistic footsteps but in his own creative direction. Sensing this untapped talent, his brother gave him his first camera, a 35mm Voigtlander and from there an inspiration grew. In 1994, David introduced David Bailey Photography, which has grown to represent some of the most highly recognized corporate clients such as Time Magazine, Wells Fargo, MCI, Exxon, Jack Daniels, Johnston & Murphy, Bridgestone/Firestone, Dell and Tractor Supply Co. With over twenty years of experience, David has artistically captured the spirit of each image with a genuine depth of feeling and emotion. His award-winning work is derived from client assignments and from self--assigned projects that he has included in his portfolio of stock photography. Not only has he travelled this country finding the moment waiting to be forever remembered, his work has taken him on photographic explorations of cultures around the world. As David leaves his studio at the end of a long day to spend quiet time with his wife and tuck his three daughters into bed with a kiss and a prayer, on a shelf sits his first camera, the Voigtlander – a simple reminder of from where, and just how far he has come.

I like the way David Bailey has used silhouettes in this picture and the way he has made the picture look like a dark sky with the bird flying over. At first glance the bird looked like a plane and it looked like the soldier-esque person is saluting the plane but after a while analysing the picture it looks to me like the soldier-esque person is saluting the guns and the flags that are being hoisted up. I like the way Bailey has used the contrast between black and white to show evil and some kind of fight that is happening or is commencing.

I like the use of colour in this photograph and the portrayal of loneliness. The colours brown, blue and green are not very vibrant and it looks like the little girl is trying to blend in with the brown of the steps to show that she would like to be left alone. I like the use of green in this picture. I think it shows hope and a new beginning. I think the plant has been very cleverly chosen because it is a vibrant colour, it stands tall and there are lots of leaves on this one plant that shows togetherness and friendship.
