Method Design Descriptive survey design was considered most suitable for this study. Participants Student of senior secondary school 2 from public secondary schools in the area. Data gathering A self-constructed questionnaire and a student achievement test in government were the instruments used for data collection.
Findings/ result Based on these findings, it was recommended that parents should be adequately sensitized on how best they can assist their children irrespective of the size and type of family among others. The result of the study revealed a significant influence of family size and family type on academic performance of secondary school in government in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, Nigeria.
Conclusion/ Recommendations The essence of this study was to investigate and present findings on the influence of family size and family type on students’ academic performance in Government in public secondary schools in Calabar Municipality, Cross Rivers State. The findings obtained from analysis of data and testing of hypothesis in the study revealed that there is a significant influence of family size and family type on students’ academic performance in Government. Based on the findings obtained in the study, the researchers make the The study recommend parents should be sensitized on the need to raise small families to enable them to provide for their educational needs that will motivate the children to learn effectively and perform satisfactory in government.
Limitation The data was collected through personal visits to all the 8 public secondary schools selected for the study.
