Electrically Operated Hydraulic Rotor Throttle System

1.1 Background Due to customer feedback and requests from the regions, we are pleased to announce the release of the all new electrically operated rotor throttle adjustment system for the full range of Sandvik VSI crushers. This new unit gives the possibility to adjust the rotor throttle easily via an electrical control box / panel, which can be located either on the crusher, or remotely in a control room. This facility is especially useful, when the customer’s needs of production change on a fairly regular basis. Altering / changing the position of the rotor throttle gate, will change the ratios between rotor feed and Bi-Flow, which in turn will adjust the product grading from the crusher. The adjustment of product (particle size distribution from the crusher), is basically achieved by adjusting / measuring / recording, the ratio of motor amps draw (kW power) and tonneage feed rate to the crusher. The new electrically operated rotor throttle unit part number 906.0648-00 , consists of an electric motor which in turn drives a pumping unit, both of which are located in a weather proof composite box. The box is located onto the crusher roof via a quick fit bracket (via the existing roof swing bolt) and is connected hydraulically via the existing quick release couplings from the rotor throttle cylinder. Electrics are connected to the unit via an IP55 rated 6 pin plug and socket, supplied as standard with the unit.

1.2 Installation overview

1. With the existing manual system of rotor throttle adjustment still connected, move the cylinder piston to its innermost position. This will ensure that excess oil is returned to the main tank and prevent the electrically operated tank (to be fitted) from overflowing.

2. Fit the Frame for Hydraulic Unit (488.1548-901) to the roof of the crusher using one of the roof swing bolts, and install the Box (919.0289-00) in the frame.

3. Disconnect the quick release couplings of the hydraulic rotor throttle hoses at the side of the crushing chamber.

4. Connect the hydraulic hoses (connected to the rotor throttle) to the quick release couplings on the side of the Box (919.0289-00). These have unique fittings to ensure correct fitting.

5. Connect the the 6 pin plug to the socket on the side of the Box (919.028900).

6. To operate the rotor throttle, activate the unit by pressing the start button.

7. To open or close the rotor throttle, turn and hold the the switch in the relevant position. When released the switch automatically returns to the central position, where there will be no movement of the piston / rotor throttle.

8. When the desired operating position of the rotor throttle is achieved, switch off the unit / pump, by pressing the stop button.
