Mesoscale Modeling of Weather Data and Predictions using Mayavi2 Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay Advisor: Dr. Prabhu Ramachandran [July 2008 – Present] Description:
Currently working as a Junior Research Fellow at IITB our group is developing an open source tool for 3D scientific visualization of weather data called as Mayavi2. The visualization obtained would be used for weather predictions. •
Distributed Diagnosis and Healthcare using Content Based Image Retrieval Advisor: Dr. Niranjan U. C. [Director of R & D, Manipal Dot Net Pvt. Ltd.] Description: [January 2008 – June 2008] The work included development of a web based system using which a doctor can submit a medical image query from a remote location using a web browser. The server then finds similar past cases using CBIR techniques and sends the result back to the client. It aids the doctor in reviewing a present case effectively.

A Decision Tree Based Approach for Medical Image Retrieval using Haralick Texture Features and Shape Measures for Frontal Chest X-rays Center for Soft Computing Research, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata Advisor: Dr. D.P. Mandal [Associate Professor, CSCR, ISI Kolkata], Dr. B Chanda [Professor, Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit, ISI Kolkata] Description: [January 2008 – July 2008] The work basically deals with identification of suitable image features for classifying a medical image query into a suitable class of disease.

Classification and Retrieval of Music Files using Query by Humming Description: [May 2006 – October 2006] Various methods of developing query-by-humming systems were investigated and finally a technique called as Dynamic Time Warping was applied for music retrieval from a database using query in form of a hum.

Softwares used: Microsoft C# .NET, Microsoft speech SDK 5.1 Description: A tool was developed using which the user can control a number of operations like invoking programs, menus etc by means of a command issued through a microphone. •
Portable and secure encryption system for transfer of files over Bluetooth Innovation Center, MIT Manipal Softwares used: C++ Description: Using the secret key provided by the user 32 bit primitive irreducible polynomial is generated which is then used to simulate a 31 stage Linear Feedback Shift Register which in turn produces random bits of data continuously. These bits of data are XORed with the bits corresponding to the file to be encrypted. The encrypted file than can be transferred to a mobile device via Bluetooth. At the receiving end using the same key and procedure decryption can be done.
Extra-Curricular Activities and Awards: •
Head, National Liaison Team, International Association for Exchange of Students for Technical Experience- India (IAESTE- IndiaMIT) during August 2006 – February 2007. This global organization generates internships worldwide and promotes exchange of students from one country to another thus providing student with an international exposure and also encourages learning of new culture along the technical work.

Vice President, RED-X, a socio adventure club of Manipal University during July 2006-June 2007. Have been actively involved in organizing events like wall rappelling, parasailing, kayaking, river crossing etc. on and off the campus as a part of the club. Recent activity involves organizing a trek to Himalayas for students of Manipal University.

Founder Chairman, DISHA an organization working exclusively for child education & welfare, recognized by C.R.Y during July 2005-June 2006. The body conducts regular English and computer classes for the underprivileged children in nearby government schools. Recent activity involves installing up new computers in govt. schools to support computer education and also consolidating some basic facilities like water, electricity etc.

Attended a workshop on “Model Rocketry” during Techfest 2007 held at IIT, Bombay. During the workshop a rocket model was designed which was later constructed using basic materials and was successfully launched.
