Caraga State University first started as “Agusan Agricultural Highschool” in 1918, it expanded in area with the reservation of a 232 hectare virgin forest land through proclamation no. 4 signed by the late Gov. Francis Burton Harrison in 1920 which declared certain parcels of public land in Ampayon, Butuan City for school site purposes. On June 22, 1963 it was then converted into Northern Mindanao Agricultural College (NORMINAC) through the R.A.3604. In 1982 NORMINAC became the Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST) through the passage of Batas Pambansa 241. R.A 9854, signed in January 5, 2010 by President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo, established Caraga State University and integrated the Northern Mindanao College of Science and Technology now known as CSU-Cabadbaran as its auxiliary campus. Today, even as a young university CSU continues to endeavor for excellence in instruction, research, extension and production as it assumes its role for regional and national development. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In pursuit of academic excellence, Caraga State University currently offers programs in the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Information Technology, Education, Agriculture and Forestry and Environmental Science. All of which is accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.

Caraga State University ranks 41 in the 2017 University rankings based on Centers of Development and Excellence and placed 13th rank in the best performing State University

and College in licensure examinations along with prestigious educational institutions such as University of the Philippines, Cebu Normal University, Mindanao State University Marawi and IIT.

The CSU Library aims to provide quality and effective services to its students. Books and other library materials are properly classified and cataloged so that it will be of service to students needs especially on their research or educational activity. A Separate Internet Subscription for fast, convenient and uninterrupted access to the “information super highway” is made available to its students. And well-informed Library staff of the current trends in the field of librarianship.
