CRYOCAUTERY OF THE CERVIX REASON FOR VISIT: • Chronic cervicitis • Pain while intercourse • Chronic vaginal discharge • An abnormal pap smear • Warts RISK ASSESSMENT • Pregnancy • Menstrual period time ANESTHESIA: None PREPARATION OF THE PATIENT: • Pap smear • Cervical biopsy • Pregnancy test • Colposcopy • Douching was stopped 24 hrs before procedure • Tampons were avoided for 24 hrs before procedure • Intercourse was avoided for 24 hrs before procedure • Vaginal medication was stopped 24 hrs before procedure • Pain medication was taken 2 hrs before procedure POSITION OF THE PATIENT:
Pap and pelvic position THE PROCEDURE • Speculum was placed in vagina to see the cervix. • The cryo probe was selected and attached to the machine. • The probe was applied to the cervix and then begins the freeze. • The cervix and probe promptly freeze together, and an ice ball was formed • The freeze was completed for ____ minutes. • The cervix was allowed to thaw for several minutes • The freeze was repeated • The probe and speculum was removed FINDINGS: Cervicitis /warts was treated/ removed DURATION _____min POSTOPERATIVE CARE • Use Amino Cerv Crème • Take pain medication as prescribed • Take antibiotics as prescribed • Stop douching for 2 weeks • Stop using tampon for 2 weeks • Stop intercourse for 2 weeks COMPLICATIONS • Scarring • Narrowing of the cervical canal
