Contract to Defend Education We, the undersigned students, faculty and staff, must take action to defend the academic mission of our university in the face of tuition hikes, class reductions, salary cuts and job losses. We assert the following: The academic mission is the university’s first priority. Cancelling classes undermines the university’s academic mission. Therefore, the funding of classes should be the first priority when making budget allocations for the Spring 2010 Semester. We request that the CSU Fullerton administration, represented by President Milton Gordon, agree to the following actions: Add classes in the Spring 2010 Semester, especially in the Humanities and Social Science departments that have lost the most classes in the Fall 2009 Semester. Keep all faculty employed at least at their current level Restore the Pollak Library’s regular hours and days of operation. Signed:

Dr. Milton Gordon, President California State University, Fullerton

This is a proposed contract between the students, faculty and staff of CSU Fullerton and the campus administration. The budget cuts are dictated by the global economic crisis, and they have come to us by way of the State government and the CSU Chancellor’s office. But how the budget cuts are to be implemented on this campus is a decision made right here in Fullerton. This contract holds the campus administration to account for how it allocates the budget it has received. The contract with all of the signatures will be presented to CSU Fullerton President Gordon by November 1. We hope that he will sign the contract to demonstrate his commitment to education.
