Steve, Aren’t you supposedly a lawyer?   You are CCRP’s legal counsel after all.     But you don’t seem cognizant of the prohibition against the county (or state) party from endorsing a candidate in a primary in which multiple Republicans are running.   That’s exactly what you are suggesting by exhorting us to ‘get behind one candidate.’ Per CA GOP bylaws section 3.02.04:

Section 3.02.04 Republican County Central Committees' Pre-Primary Endorsements for Partisan Elective Office in Special Primary Elections or Recalls (A) Where there is more than one Republican candidate for nomination or election in a special primary election, no Republican County Central 46

Committee shall endorse, support or oppose any candidate for nomination or election at a special primary election or in a recall or recall replacement election, except in the following manner and circumstances: Full bylaws here:   http://www.cagop.org/pdf/bylaws.pdf Moreover, the prohibition is reinforced specifically in California Election Code section 7354. You are asking us to break the law. 7354. (a) The state central committee may prohibit or limit the power of county central committees established pursuant to Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 7400) to endorse, support, or oppose any candidate for nomination by the California Republican Party for partisan office in the direct primary election. (b) The superior court, in any case brought before it by the state central committee or by any registered voter, may issue a temporary

or permanent restraining order or injunction to prohibit the endorsement, support, or opposition by a county central committee of any candidate for nomination by the California Republican Party for partisan office in the direct primary election, if the endorsement, support, or opposition is in violation of the bylaws or rules of the state central committee. All cases of this nature shall be in a preferred position for purposes of trial and appeal, so as to ensure the speedy disposition thereof.

I will not be a party to, nor accomplice to any crime, nor aid and abet any illegal actions by you or any other officers or members of this committee.   Ted Hudacko 1st Supervisorial District

Sean: I disagree.  We need to get behind one candidate.  If we don't, the Dems win, again.  We now have no Repub. Representation for the Bay Area in congress.  David Harmer is the strongest Republican with the best chance to win.  He can win without a run--off.  Let's not diminish Mr. Harmer's chances by diluting our vote to other weaker candidates.

Let's rally around Harmer and take back the 10th. Steve Sonaty On Jul 11, 2009, at 11:36 AM, "Sean D. The problem I see here is that I don't see any coordinated effort to finish up some debate forums and get the information presented in the newspaper and blogs.   The democrats have certainly been busy getting debates and forums under their belt in this race. To that end we need a debate night, and call it the Republican CD-10 Forum or something like that.  We need press coverage to get the ball rolling.  I know that Tom has contacts at KSFO and has been talking about David Harmer on air.    I would like to see coverage for Chris Bunch, David Peterson, and Dr. John Toth as well.   Considering that our director Michael C. is on the Harmer campaign it shouldn't be difficult to get him to appear. July 15th is the signature deadline for registration in the race.   If you want to help in collecting, or simply signing some signatures let me know. I am personally contacting the other central committees, but I need help.   We need to get a debate forum going, an event location, and support from the several counties involved, Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda.   Lets get some traction on this, and maybe we can schedule a July CCRP meeting at the same time? thanks.
