Manning (backside) limited in practice

$GGLQJ D OLWWOH PRUH

Associated Press

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday because of a backside injury. Manning has not missed a start in his 12-year career, a streak that is at 201, including playoff games. He was listed as a limited participant one other time this season. Manning was one of 25 players, including 13 starters, on the Colts’ list of injuries. Left tackle Charlie Johnson (foot) also was limited at practice. Four starters did not practice: wide receiver Reggie Wayne (foot), defensive end Dwight Freeney (abdomen), safety Antoine Bethea (foot) and cornerback Kelvin Hayden (knee). Indy visits Houston on Sunday with a chance to clinch the AFC South title.

៑Jets: Safety Kerry Rhodes, a University of Louisville product, was demoted by coach Rex Ryan in favor of Eric Smith. Rhodes has failed to be the playmaking presence Ryan expected when he compared him to Baltimore’s Ed Reed in the offseason. Instead, Rhodes has struggled with no interceptions, sacks, forced fumbles or fumble recoveries. Rhodes has started every game since being a fourthround pick in 2005. ៑Cardinals: Quarterback Kurt Warner went through a full practice on and said he expects to play Sunday at Tennessee. Warner says he passed the required mental tests on Tuesday after sustaining a concussion in last Sunday’s 21-13 victory at St. Louis. Also, rookie outside linebacker Will Davis will be sidelined 4-6 weeks after surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. ៑Browns: Linebacker Matt Roth was picked up off waivers from Miami. Picked by the Dolphins in the second round in 2005, Roth made 23 starts in five seasons for Miami.
