Installation of Globus Toolkit 4.2.0 on Ubuntu 8.06 LTS Step 1) Log on to remote server Step 2) Check hostname Step 3) Check ipconfig Step 4) Check for zlib Step 5) Install zlib1g-dev -> sudo aptitude install zlib1g-dev Step 6) Check for zlib -> dpkg --list | grep zlib Step 7) INSTALL zlib-bin -> sudo aptitude install zlib-bin Step 8) Check for zlib -> dpkg --list | grep zlib Step 9) Create folder for java installer -> mkdir ~/java Step 10) Download jdk1.5.0_16 FROM http://java.sun.com/products/archive/ -> wget ________________________________________________ Step 11) Rename the installer file to jdk-1_5_0_16-linux-i586.bin Step 12) chmod the java installer -> chmod u+x jdk-1_5_0_16-linux-i586-bin Step 13) Copy the java installer to /usr/lib -> sudo cp jdk-1_5_0_16-linux-i586-bin /usr/ lib Step 14) cd to /usr/lib and run the java installer -> sudo ./jdk-1_5_0_16-linux-i586-bin Step 15) Check the java install to make sure it installed correctly -> cd /usr/lib/jdk1.5.0_16 , ls -lrt Step 16) Add paths to .bashrc for all users vi ~/.bashrc ------------------------------------------------# Globus, java, ant, junit, ssl settings export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jdk1.5.0_16 export ANT_HOME=/usr/share/ant export JUNIT_HOME=/usr/bin/junit export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$ANT_HOME/bin:$PATH export GLOBUS_LOCATION=/usr/local/globus export SSLEAY_CONFIG=”-config /CA/openssl.cnf” export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:$JAVA_HOME/lib:$JUNIT_HOME export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$ANT_HOME/bin:$GLOBUS_LOCATION/bin:$PATH . $GLOBUS_LOCATION/etc/globus-usr-env.sh Step 17) Add globus user -> sudo adduser globus Step 18) Copy .bashrc to /home/globus Step 19) Install libssl-dev -> sudo aptitude install libssl-dev Step 20) Install ant -> sudo aptitude install ant Step 21) Check ant installation -> dpkg --list | grep ant Step 22) Check version of ant -> ant --version Step 23) Check version of gcc -> gcc --version

Step 24) Check version of g++ -> g++ --version Step 25) Check version of tar -> tar --version Step 26) Check version of sed -> sed --version Step 27) Check version of make -> make --version Step 28) Check version of perl --> perl --version Step 29) Check version of sudo --> sudo -V Step 030) Check for postgres -> dpkg --list | grep postgres Step 031) Install postgres -> sudo aptitude install postgres Step 032) Install postgresql -> sudo aptitude install postgresql Step 033) Check for postgres -> dpkg --list | grep postgres Step 034) Check for psql -> dpkg --list | grep psql Step 035) Install iodbc -> sudo aptitude install libiodbc2 libiodbc2-dev Step 036) Create a folder for globus -> sudo mkdir /usr/local/globus Step 037) Change permissions -> sudo chown globus:globus /usr/local/globus Step 038) Become the globus user -> su - globus Step 039) Untar the globus installer -> tar -xvzf gt4.2.0-all-source-installer.tar.gz Step 040) Check values of ANT_HOME, JAVA_HOME and PATH echo $ANT_HOME -> /usr/share/ant echo $JAVA_HOME -> /usr/lib/jdk1.5.0_16 echo $PATH -> Step 041) Run configure -> ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/globus --with-iodbc=/usr/lib Step 042) Run make -> make | tee installer.log Step 043) Run make installer -> make install
