C2 Valentine Box You will need: Scissors, Tape, Pattern for Box Top (81/2” square), Pattern for Box Bottom (8” square)

1. Cut each paper into a square using the bold outlines (do not cut the dotted lines yet). NOTE: The smaller square will be assembled into the bottom of the box. The larger square will be assembled into the top of the box.

2. To make the bottom box, fold the smaller paper square in half diagonally, first one way and then the other, creasing the folds well, then unfold. (Fig. 1) 3. Next, fold in all four corners so they meet in the center of the paper, crease them well and then unfold them. (Fig. 2)

4. Now, fold one of the corners so that it meets the farthest crease line opposite that corner, crease it and then unfold it. Do the same with the other three corners. (Fig. 3) 5. Finally fold each corner to its closest crease line then unfold to reveal an overall pattern of creased squares. (Fig. 4)

6. Using scissors cut along the dotted lines. 7. Place the paper in front of you, with design facing down, with the cuts facing north and south. (Fig. 5) Fold in the east and west corners along the crease lines two times, finally bringing the two sides up vertically so they stand up from your work surface (Fig. 6a). Bend the pointed ends of the east and west sides toward one another, crossing them so your box looks like Fig. 6b from the top.

8. Bring the tongue-shaped portion of the paper (the one facing south) up and over the crossed ends, folding it down over the ends and tape in place (Fig. 7). You can try tucking it in without tape so that it stays put, but it’s tricky. Do the same with the north end of the paper. This completes the bottom of the box. Fig. 6a 9. To make the lid, repeat steps 2 through 8 with the larger square. 10.You can fill your box with chocolate kisses, candy hearts, or any other little treat that your Valentine will love.
