Comintern The Communist International (comintern) was formed in Russia in 1919 to propagate the world proletarian revolution. Communist parties from other countries could affiliate, provided they accepted its revolutionary principles. The Comintern was heavily involved in the recruitment and organisation of the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War. The organization was disbanded by Stalin in 1943.
