The phoenix is a mythical bird that is rooted in many ancient cultures. From the Egyptian Bennu to the Japanese Hou-Ou, the bird is known for rising from the ashes of death and resurrecting. What a cool way to symbolize the resurrection of one much mightier than a mere bird. One who gives flight to all birds and life to all that lives. Christ Jesus is our Risen Savior.

Have you ever heard the life story of Jim Elliot? That has always been an inspiration to me. Not just that he died in a strange land for the sake of the gospel. but that he even went. He traded his easy road for a road uncertain. We remember him by his famous statement of faith, “trade what you can not keep for what you can not lose”.

It seems every few years our nation embraces a new trendy cause. I call it “cause-hopping.” When something becomes trendy in Hollywood, the rest of the country follows, but only for a little while. Then we jump onto something else. So for about one or two more years, the earth is going to be loved and cared for. That’s good to know, I guess. The truth is, concern for the environment is a very wonderful and even holy ambition. Natural conservation, restoration, and improvement of our world are essential to our health and future. The problem is when we look deeply at the needs of creation and look past the giver that is our Creator. We need to honor His creation, but above all love Him.

This street art campaign marketed to the skater community has appeared in nearly every major city in the world. Ove the last 20 years an entire brand has been created. This similar political propaganda imagery is a trendy way to remind ourselves exactly who to obey. The swords represent the sword of the spirit. The star represents the morning star. The small lion below is the tribe of the Lion of Judah.

I have always loved the little sandbox soliders. I used to place them around my bed at night to ambush the scary monsters. My favorite was the only one that did not carry a gun. I think he was the medic or something but I didn’t know what that was, so, I just thought he was a really nice guy. Those little plastic heroes are the inspiration for this design. The nice solider on the right is giving a peace offering of heart-shaped grenades. When the smiley-faced clips are pulled, there is a peace explosion. Ok, that is lame but it is a fun design that tells of one of the most basic and beautiful ideas of our faith. The message goes even deeper in a time like this. When half the world is at war. When political parties are at each other’s throats. The world tells us how to handle our enemies. God has a different way.

Heart of the Artist : behind the design The image of Jesus on the cross is not easy to look upon. It is a reminder of the sacrifice that God paid for our sin. He lived up to his end of the bargin by dying. Love itself can best be defined as giving our very lives. However, God is not asking for our own death or even our sacrifice but that we obey and serve him with our lives. Laying down your life can be more practical. For example, putting aside your own ambitions to serve your family or spouse. To me the image of Jesus on the cross is the true definintion of love. He died for us so that we would live for him.

I have always loved the little sandbox soliders. I used to place them around my bed at night to ambush the scary monsters. My favorite was the only one that did not carry a gun. I think he was the medic or something but I didn’t know what that was, so, I just thought he was a really nice guy. Those little plastic heroes are the inspiration for this design. The nice solider on the right is giving a peace offering of heart-shaped grenades. When the smiley-faced clips are pulled, there is a peace explosion. Ok, that is lame but it is a fun design that tells of one of the most basic and beautiful ideas of our faith. The message goes even deeper in a time like this. When half the world is at war. When political parties are at each other’s throats. The world tells us how to handle our enemies. God has a different way.

He lived up to his end of the bargin by dying. Love itself can best be defined as giving our very lives. However, God is not asking for our own death or even our sacrifice but that we obey and serve him with our lives. Laying down your life can be more practical. For example, putting aside your own ambitions to serve your family or spouse. To me the image of Jesus on the cross is the true definintion of love. He died for us so that we would live for him.
