CLASS ACTIVITIES IN INDONESIAN Guideline Objectives 1. To demonstrate your vocabulary knowledge in Indonesian. 2. To demonstrate your mastery of the language using the limited vocabulary that you have learned. 3. To demonstrate your ability to use the language in a classroom situation, where you are expected to lead a class activity and to encourage your classmates to interact with you. Grades are based on the three aspects above. You will need to pay attention to the following to prepare for your activities: 1. Preparation – Vocabulary list. Submit the list to me one week in advance for correction. You will make copies of the revised list and distribute them in class before you start the activity. – Instruction. Submit the instruction to me one week in advance for correction. You will make copies of the revised instruction and distribute them in class before you start the activity. – Any images or music you need for the activity? (Please let me know ahead of time so I can reserve any equipment you might need) 2. Instruction The key to a good activity is a clear instruction. If necessary, write down the instruction for backup. You are not to read the instruction in class, since this is supposed to be a speaking practice. You may, however, put the instruction up on the board (print them in large characters, do not write it in longhand because I don’t want you to waste time doing so). 3. Leading the activities Since your job is to lead the activity, and to make sure that everyone is involved in the activity, please make sure that you think ahead of what you want him or her to do. Make a list of the things you plan to say during the activity. This is not a class presentation. You are not expected to do most of the talking. If you plan a game, choose one that requires the participants to speak. Only Indonesian is used during the activity. Here are the steps in leading the activities: (1) Distribute the handouts. (2) Give the class a few minutes to read the handout. Ask them if they have any question, and respond to the question. (3) Ask the class if they are ready. (4) Start the activity 4. Participation When you are not leading the activity, you will be graded on your participation. So please speak. If you don’t understand the instruction, ask. If you know that you won’t be in class for any of the activity, please let your friend know. Please be in class on time I will not participate in any of the activity. I will videotape and grade you. 5. Time Class activity takes 50 minutes or the entire class time. Everyone is invited to ask questions or give comments for the remaining of the class time and will be graded on that. Get help If you want to discuss your activity with me, or if you want me to go over your plans before you lead the activity, please give me at least two days before your activity date.
