Claire Livingstone Prayer letter Sep 09

Thanks… Your support has been a reminder to me of Gods care and provision: building his people together. I hope that my prayer letters will be an encouragement to you, and a reminder of the impact you are making on the lives of students in Scotland. However, as I have emphasised in my previous emails I want to be able to support you in anyway I can so please feel free to write, call or email at any point. As the RELAY programme progresses I hope I will be able to share more with you of what I am learning –on both an academic level (through my studies) and a practical level (in my placement with Abertay CU) Yet in it all I pray we will keep our eyes fixed on Christ, being reminded of the potential God has in each one of us to further His Kingdom by sharing the reality of the gospel, confident that Jesus Christ really brings good news to a world lost of hope, purpose and direction!

That’s it folks….I am an official RELAY worker for Dundee-there’s no going back!! The past month seems to have flown by so apologies for not getting in touch with you sooner. I am so thankful for your prayers and support that have helped me along my journey so far! For those of you who I haven’t kept up-to-date with, you will be able to find my blog page at www.relayclaire.blogspot.com

which will give you a bit of an insight into what a RELAY worker actual is and some of my thoughts before taking on the position. Beyond the bonnieland As most of you know, I began my training at the end of august, setting sail from Northern Ireland to Dundee and travelling by car to the Quinta Centre in Wales to join the team of 69 relay workers across the Uk. Praise God for this

number and the encouragement it brought to know that anxieties and fears over the year ahead were being shared! Eager to know what lay ahead, I wanted to get down to the practicalities but the teaching took a different approach. We were challenged over what it

means to be a Christian: looking again at how Jesus’ death on the cross transforms our lives, beyond a one-time acceptance into a day-to-day basis. How it motivates us and how we trust, believe and know God sustains our future to give us a hope and joy that overflows to those around who don’t know Him.

The Christian Unions After our week of Relay training at the end of August CU’s across the UK were invited to a week long conference called FORUM run by UCCF.

How does it all work out?

Our diaries have been quickly filling up but what does my week look like? Well…

900 students came (some brave who camped in the mud and rain) to receive teaching and training on God’s Word: celebrating and defending the truth of the gospel, becoming urgent in evangelism, passionate about unity and motivated by grace, catching the

There are three RELAY workers altogether in Dundee: my flatmate Lizzie who works with the Art College; James who is based with Dundee University CU and myself, based with Abertay University CU. As both James and myself have previously been

Pray for their integration into CU-to become part of the mission team on campus! Pray for the committees and the CU programme that lies ahead for the year

Elective Study: This is something we study that we choose for ourselves. This semester, I will be looking at Prayer: discovering the purpose of it and how it can be effective. The main focus’ for the year is that as we learn we are able to pass on. This can be done through building up one-to-one relationships with students: meeting regularly to study the bible together; being accountable to how our lives point others to Christ and being dependant on God’s word to equip us to share it. •

Pray that God would lead me to the right students to work with-there are so many girls to choose from-its not about picking favourites! Pray for my supervisors Mark and Joanne: for the studies and accountability time we have with one another each week
