the situation London is a city of stark contrasts - the most prosperous institutions have their bases here, right next to the most deprived areas in the country. It is due to this stark poverty gap that our objective is to focus on society’s youth, as they are our future and our hope of closing this gap.
the need Within these areas, we have identified 'at risk' children – those with a history of exam failure, behavioural or concentration problems. We have identified this section of the population as being one of the most at need, both socially and economically, yet with so much economic potential. We have focused our scheme on fulfilling these ‘at-risk’ student’s needs by: Mentoring Providing a full enterprise education Improving skills and attributes
aim Our aim is to create an overarching scheme that gives at-risk students, from age 14, the best economic opportunity available by guiding them through a range of enterprise and career programmes.

We have developed and implemented the following four programmes, which help ‘at-risk’ students to overcome the social barriers and neglect they often face. We designed these complimentary programmes to provide continuing support for our students, as their needs change over the period of over two years. They all focus on providing the following learning objectives 1. Market economics, 2. personal success skills, 3. entrepreneurship, 4. financial literacy, 5. business ethics 6. sustainability 14 - 15

This programme spreads the awareness of enterprise in our community, whilst also acting as a catalyst for schools to join the Entrepreneurship Programme the following term
This entrepreneurship and financial literacy programme takes students through the process every entrepreneur goes through. Improved and expanded from last year, when we ran it with ‘at-risk’ Charles Edward Brook School students, the programme’s impact on students has been “outstanding” – P. Abagna, Teacher, Aveling Park School
This programme’s main goal is to expand the participant’s horizons. Over the course of 5 months, students are taken from further enterprise education through to developing their aspirations and preparing for a career.
Run in partnership with Islington Council, this programme fully prepared the students for applying for jobs. The day improved their confidence, and significantly improved their chances of getting the job they want

Students researched, planned and ultimately ran their own business, trading with their local community for one week. They created business plans prior to running their enterprise, which they showcased at our ‘Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Event’. Students realised that competition in labour market means they must improve their grades, skills and attributes to succeed
Significant improvement in confidence through public speaking and negotiating sales with local businesses
80% of the business’ potential customer base became patrons
They gained confidence in their skills and experiences, and their ability to ‘sell’ themselves both on paper and in an interview
500% increase in number of students who understood enterprise
Students realised the importance of managing finances effectively, both corporate and personal Students realised and practiced business ethics, choosing not to implement potentially illegal practices

No additional funding required next year The transition programme will be funded by the schools themselves. Plans are in place for the EP to be self-financing from June 2006, with back-up of YoungBiz funding. Continue EP international research and development SIFE-Llubjiana has just run part of our Entrepreneurship Programme in Slovenia. We will continue to work with this and US SIFE teams to help set a benchmark for enterprise education amongst children in schools.
