BACKGROUND: In 1995, Doran Wyle was a somewhat normal VCU computer programming student when he decided to volunteer for one of the many medical studies he saw posted on the hallway billboards. He picked the one claiming to pay the most money. Doran entered the building for his initial exam, found the doctor’s office, and the last thing he remembered was feeling slightly drowsy waiting for the nurse to come take his vital statistics. Doran awoke to find himself trapped in a windowless plastic room. Although Doran attempted to keep track of the days he spent in the facility, he was never allowed contact with the outside world. Eventually, Doran awoke to find that his hair was falling out. Several “mornings” later,

Doran began waking to different challenges every morning - find his way through an obstacle filled maze, battle a huge robot, scale his way up a cliff while being attacked, etc., and Doran never met his captors. Each challenge forced him to use or develop an aspect of his powers. At no point did Doran actually meet his captors. Eventually, the facility was either satisfied or disappointed with his performance because Doran awoke one morning sprawled across a giant bed in an expensive hotel in Tampa, Florida. The date, he discovered, was June 16, 1997. Doran attempted to track down the “Facility” but has failed so far. The only clue that Doran ever came across was a bellhop who remembered him entering the hotel apparently in a drunken stupor in the company of two muscular women. Doran spent nearly a year wandering the country attempting to do good deeds, as he thought he should, but due to a series of mishaps and accidents, his hoped for heroic reputation never came about. Doran also spent some time in the asteroid field surrounding Earth, working as an asteroid miner, breaking up huge chunks of rock and iron into manageable sized pieces for transport to Earth. Currently, Doran works as a human bulldozer, moving and breaking up stone in a quarry in rural Western Virginia. Doran feels that his life is a horrible mess, and his depression shows up in the form of anger, much of which he releases at work breaking up the rock. Doran realizes how the public must view his ultimate form, a 27 tonne (59,500 lbs), 13.3m tall stone monstrosity.
