FEUDAL JAPAN SKIT DUE: Tuesday, Dec. 8 (green and orange) or Wednesday, Dec. 9 (yellow and blue) The purpose of this group project • to apply your knowledge of feudal Japan and Bushido in a fun and creative way The final products • a skit you will perform for the class • a script of your skit • a paragraph from each person (written independently) that connects your skit to our study of feudal Japan and Bushido How you will be graded • as a group on your skit and the script (1/3 of your grade) • as an individual on your paragraph connecting your skit to our study of feudal Japan and Bushido • your final products must be historically accurate and culturally sensitive Group roles (except for the director, role might overlap) Director: in charge of skit practices and making sure the skit doesn’t run too long. Writer: the lead person in charge of the script Actors: people who actually act out the skit Process: • Read the background and summary on the story of the 47 ronin. It is a famous event in the 1700s about the death of a daimyo and the 47 ronin who avenge his death • Read actively, underlining or highlighting parts that referred to elements of feudal Japanese culture and politics and material we have covered in class • Make a list of main themes or topics covered in the tale • Create a skit (including writing a script!) that uses those themes in your list. The skit may be modern if you wish. The skit should be no more than 10 minutes long. • Each person will then write a paragraph that connects your skit to our study of feudal Japan
