I. COURSE INFORMATION A. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course on the Church, Liturgy & Sacraments is designed to give students the essential knowledge about the meaning, nature, history, social teachings and mission of the Church as well as her Liturgy and Sacraments. Major themes on liturgical prayer, the paschal mystery, the presence of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the liturgy, participation in community, and liturgical ministries as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Church’s Magisterium are considered. Thus, this course will enable the students to become instruments of evangelization and liturgical and sacramental practices by integrating their learning about the basics of this course and the ideals of the teachings of St. Augustine in their personal lives and community life.

B. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs): This course aims to evoke from the students the enthusiasm and zeal to actively participate in building up the Christian community through the gospel values of solidarity, generosity, compassion, justice, peace, and respect for the integrity of creation. Moreover, it aims, not only at a thorough catechesis of the students in the understanding of and love for the Church’s liturgy and sacraments, but also at the theological connections between the theology of the sacraments and some pastoral issues, always in the context of and in service to the Church.
A. Cognitive (Knowledge) 1. Acquire a deeper understanding of the meaning and nature of the Church as well as Church’s liturgy and sacraments in the context of their experience. 2. Define clearly his/her role and task as a member of the Church. 3. Distinguish genuine Christian practices from superstitious beliefs in line with liturgy and sacraments.
B. Psychomotor (Skills) 1. Translate their conceptual frameworks about the current Church movement, liturgy and the sacraments to their personal and prayer life, and to their liturgical and sacramental participation in their respective parishes and in the school community in particular. 2. Design a pastoral plan for youth involvement in their respective parish. 3. Active involvement and participation in building up the Christian community through community outreach and exposures.
C. Affective (Attitude and Values) 1. Articulate their love and appreciation for being part of the Church and to the Church’s liturgy and sacraments in the context of their experiences and current events. 2. Value or recognize the role of the Church and their participation in promoting Christian principles, liturgical and sacramental life. 3. IV. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES A. EXPECTATIONS FROM STUDENTS The student’s responsibility is to come to each class prepared. S/he is also expected to take all examinations on the date scheduled. S/he should read the assigned module topics prior to class. S/he is expected to attend class and participate actively in the discussions. B. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY All students are expected to be academically honest. Cheating, lying and other forms of unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Any student found guilty of cheating in examinations or plagiarism in submitted course requirements will receive an F (“failure”) grade in the course requirement or in the course. Plagiarism refers to the use of books, notes or other intellectual property without giving proper attribution to its author, or representing the work of another person as one’s own. Cheating refers to securing help in a test; copying tests, assignments, reports or term papers; collaborating with other students during an examination or in preparing academic work; signing another student’s name on an attendance sheet; or otherwise practicing scholastic dishonesty. C. POLICY ON ABSENCES The allowed number of absences for students enrolled in a 1 ½ hour class is seven (7). Request for excused absences or waiver of absences must be presented upon reporting back to class. Special examinations will be allowed only in special cases, such as prolonged illness. It is the responsibility of the student to monitor his/her tardy incidents and absences that might accumulate leading to a grade of “FA” (Failure due to absences). It is his/her responsibility to consult with the faculty, chairperson or Dean should his/her case be of special nature. (Refer to another Policy on Physically-challenged students). D. USE OF TECHNOLOGY Students are refrain from using their cell phones to make or receive calls and/or text messages while the class lecture / laboratory is in session. If you absolutely must have a cell phone on, it must be in silent mode at all times during the class. If it is an emergency call coming during the class, respond to it outside the classroom / laboratory. E. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS The students shall observe intellectual property rights when citing references using APA format and observe ethical practices to prevent plagiarism. 11
