Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute
The following are some examples of programs at Cameron Heights C.I. designed for all students to succeed. Character Education Students, staff, and parents work together to support ten identified character attributes: Respect, Responsibility, Loyalty, Trust, Caring, Courage, Friendliness, Honesty, Fairness and Confidence. The School Success Plan for Cameron Heights has been developed to include Character in all school activities.
International Baccalaureate Programme
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB Programme) offers a balanced comprehensive curriculum for highly motivated students. It is designed to encourage critical thought, research skills and service as part of the learning process. Staff members participate in continuous training and learning for the delivery of this program in the areas of curriculum, program delivery and assessment.
Working Together to Support Student Success All students can achieve success at Cameron Heights. Students are supported and engaged in various initiatives including Credit Recovery, Peer Tutoring, Literacy Supports, the Student Success Center, and an Anti-Bullying Program. Through our Student Success Centre or Guidance Department, students requiring unique programming can access continuous entry co-op, on-line learning and on-line co-operative learning experiences.
Co-curricular Learning Opportunities Students are invited to enrich their school experience through participation in a full array of sports teams, arts, clubs, associations, support groups, student activities, and volunteering.
A Learning Community Students and staff are committed to learning and achievement. The Success Council meets regularly to co-ordinate professional learning activities for staff that reflect and respond to the needs of the students.
International Studies This is a secondary school program in which all Cameron Heights students can earn credits towards an International Studies Certificate by completing a series of courses with an international focus. This program helps to support Cameron Heights as a school where everyone belongs.
Literacy Initiatives To support students in preparation for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) and beyond, a number of staff supported initiatives are in place such as ongoing professional development, identification of at-risk students, extended tutoring, specialized preparation, literacy labs, the use of support staff, application hardware and software, and literacy test preparation lessons.
