dyes are next-generation reactive fluorescent dyes developed by scientists at Biotium. These new dyes offer major improvements over the Cy dyes and Alexa Fluor dyes in fluorescent antibody labeling by having a combination of advantages in brightness, photostability, specificity and novel features for in vivo imaging. One feature of CF dyes is that they are not as heavily charged as Alexa Fluor dyes are. As a result, CF dyes do not significantly change the isoelectric points of the antibodies they label, thereby preserving the specificity of the antibodies. Thus, CF dye-labeled antibodies may be particularly advantageous in labeling tissue samples by providing maximal signal to noise ratio. Another advantage is that CF dyes are engineered to be less immunogenic than most other known fluorescent dyes. This characteristics makes CF dye-labeled protein conjugates ideal for in vivo imaging by having a longer half-life in the blood circulation system. CF dyes are also chemically very stable, being able to tolerate both acidic and alkaline conditions. Furthermore, most of the CF dyes are significantly more fluorescent and more photostable than Alexa Fluor
dyes and Cy dyes, making them the best choice for studies that involve long-term imaging. Our CF dye series comprises dyes with wavelengths spanning the UV, visible and near IR spectrum. CF products include both reactive dyes and various CF dye-labeled bioproducts. Table 1 lists some of the initially available products. More CF products will become available during 2008. Please check our website for updates. *CF dye technology is covered by pending US and international patents; Alexa is a registered trademark of Invitrogen Co.; Cy is a trademark of GE Healthcare.
