Cells are the Starting Point  Cells are small compartments that hold all of the biological equipment necessary to keep an organism alive and successful on Earth.

Types of Cells  There are many types of cells. In biology class, you will usually work with plant-like cells and animal-like cells.

Humans  Humans have hundreds of types of cells.  Some cells are used to carry oxygen (O2) through the blood (red blood cells) and others might be specific to the heart.

Quiz Time! s s s

There are only two types of cells T/ F? The cell is the basic unit of structure in living things. T/F Plants do not have cells, only animals. T/F

Human Tissue  Many cells work together to perform the same function. They form tissues.  For example, heart tissue or skin tissue. Fun Fact! This is a close up of your skin. Every square inch of skin has about 30million cells!

Organs  Tissues work together to form ORGANS.  For example, your heart, your brain, your kidneys, etc.

Systems

 A system is a group of organs that work together and provide an organism with an advantage for survival.  For example, your nervous system, your muscular system, your circulatory system, your respiratory system.

Concept Maps  This is a graphic organizer for exploring knowledge and organizing information.

Your Task:  Create a concept map that shows the relationship between  CELLS  TISSUES  ORGANS  SYSTEMS
