Energy Assistance... Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) The LIHEAP is designed to assist eligible low-income households pay for winter energy services, in the form of one-time payments to utility companies that are applied directly to the household’s energy bills. The amount of the payment is determined by income, household size, fuel type and geographic location. Priority enrollment runs from September to October for seniors and persons living with disabilities. Open enrollment for all eligible households begin November 1, and operates until funds are exhausted. *Applicants eligible for LIHEAP automatically qualify for CEDA’s Weatherization program. Reconnection Assistance Reconnection assistance may be available if your household is disconnected from an energy source used for heating. Assistance may also be available for delivered fuels if the delivered fuel supplier has refused to deliver and the tank contains 10% or less fuel. Only households that have made good faith efforts to maintain their energy services will be considered. Documents Needed For LIHEAP 1.
Proof of gross income from all household members for the 30-day period to the application date.

Current copy of heat and electric bills (if you pay for your home energy directly)

If a member of your household receives TANF, you must bring their Medical Eligibility Card

Applicants that have their utilities covered in the rent must bring proof of rental agreement stating monthly rental amount that utilities are included, and landlord contact information. (Rent costs must be 30% of household gross income for 30 days prior to application).
...Energy Conservation Weatherization CEDA's Weatherization Program is a year-round program that uses state-of-the-art technology to make homes more energy-efficient for qualifying low-income residents living in Chicago and suburban Cook County. Repairing or replacing older furnaces, installing heatsaving insulation and sealing bypasses to conserve energy are measures used to keep homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Weatherization work may also includes: •

Furnace and boiler improvements

Safety testing of gas appliances

Window and door repair and improvement

Annual income for each member of the household 16 years and older

Other CEDA Energy Service Programs The LIHEAP Furnace Program is ONLY available to qualified LIHEAP applicants. The program only performs work for applicants that are homeowners or landlords living at the property and their heating system is non-operable. LIHEAP applicants can apply for LIHEAP Furnace every year as long as the heating system is nonoperable.
