Recent Events > Canadian Independent Boarding Schools Info Session November 1, 2008 - CEC Hong Kong’s first ever Independent Boarding Schools Info Session drew a full house of prospective students and parents. Featured were presentations from each of the schools and one-on-one meetings with admissions officers. Participating schools included Académie Ste. Cécile International School (Windsor, Ontario), Branksome Hall (Toronto, Ontario), St. John’s-Ravenscourt School (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and St. Margaret’s School (Victoria, British Columbia). CEC Hong Kong hopes to host similar events in the future. > High School Seminars CEC Hong Kong had the pleasure of hosting High School Seminars by Niagara Christian Community of Schools (Fort Erie, Ontario) and King’s-Edgehill School (Windsor, Nova Scotia) on November 15 and December 4 respectively. Prospective students and parents enjoyed in-depth presentations by the Directors of Admissions, as well as one-on-one interaction. > Study Canada Info Sessions On November 21, CEC Hong Kong hosted its first monthly Study Canada Info Session. The topic of the month was “University Transfer Programs and English Foundation Courses”. Study Canada Info Sessions rd will be held on every 3 Friday of the month from 4:30 - 5:30pm, with a different topic each month!

Upcoming Events > High School Seminars Queen Margaret’s School January 8, 2009 @ 6:00-8:00pm, Canadian Education Centre Queen Margaret’s School (QMS) is an independent, all-girls’ boarding school located in Duncan, British Columbia. Mr. Chad Holtum, Deputy Head Operations, Admissions Team, will be at CEC to give a presentation on the QMS Advantage and to meet with prospective students and families. rd

> Study Canada Info Sessions Every 3 Friday of the Month @ 4:30pm, Canadian Education Centre December 19, 2008: University: How to Start the Application Process Scholarships January 16, 2009: February 20, 2009: Public and Private High Schools in Canada > Canadian High School Forum March 21, 2009 @ 12:00-4:00pm, Excelsior Hotel Students and parents will get the opportunity to interact with Canadian high school admissions representatives at CEC’s annual High School Forum 2009. Detailed school information, one-on-one meetings with school representatives, seminars on Study in Canada and study permits, and onsite applications will be available. Outreach CEC counselors perform outreach activities at education organizations, and at local and international schools, informing the public on Study in Canada, how to apply, study permit applications, program options and more! What’s New > Short-term Programs Brochure 2009 > The 2009 edition of the Short-term Programs Brochure will be unveiled at the CEC Hong Kong’s 2009 High School Forum on March 21, 2009 at Excelsior Hotel. This popular guide to short-term programs in Canada is a year-round reference for summer programs, ESL programs, winter camps and much more! Please visit www.vfs-canada.com.cn for more information. > Imagine > The Government of Canada and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), recently unveiled a new logo, Imagine, to encourage international students to pursue their studies in Canada. > Canada being the easiest place to make new friends > Results of a HSBC Bank International survey showed Germany, Canada and Australia respectively to be the friendliest countries in the world, with Canada being the easiest place to make new friends. The study surveyed 2,155 expatriates from 48 countries between February and April 2008. The respondents were asked to rate the country in four categories: ability to befriend locals; whether they joined local community groups; those who learned the local language; and those who bought any local property. (The Sun, A10, 12 Dec 2008) > Sauve Scholars Program > Launched in 2003, this program is a unique opportunity for 12-14 young leaders under the age of 30 from around the world to spend the academic year in Montreal for a period of research, reflection, personal and professional development. A unique aspect of the Program is that the Scholars live together in a heritage mansion within walking distance of McGill University, their academic ‘home’.
