Carbon Gas

• Carbon dioxide, CO2 , is one of two oxides of carbon, and is the principal product oxide of carbon formed from the combustion of hydrocarbon fuels. This gas is implicated in the greenhouse effect. The carbon dioxide which is present in the atmosphere is produced by respiration and by combustion. However, it has a short residence time in this phase as it is both consumed by plants during photosynthesis.

• Preparation of carbon gas Carbon dioxide is prepared by the chemical reaction of calcium carbonate and hydrochloric and CaCo3 + 2HCl CaCl2 + H2O + CO2

Procedure:- Put some pieces of marble in a wolfe bottle .Fix cork on the mouth of bottle.Pass thistle funnel from it.

Fix another cork on the its second mouth.

Put gas jar under the second and of delivery take such that it reaches near the gas jar.Put water in bottle through funnel such that marble pieces will sink in the water.Now,put some drops of HCl through thistle funnel. Reaction starts and gas forms in the form of bubble and gas collects in the gas jar.
