SNaCS Lead Chef/Trainer

CLASSIFICATION:

Non-Exempt, Hourly

WAGE CLASS:

04 ($20,946 – $28,974 with most individuals starting at the lower end of the wage scale) with full benefits

HOURS WORKED:

Full-time; hours 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and/or occasional evening/weekend hours as required, dependent upon program, departmental, or agency needs.

SUMMARY: Integral member of team planning the development and implementation of a new food-service-based job training and placement program for a non-profit community action program. Responsible for production of contract meals and for assisting Lead Chef Trainer in classroom training and integration of trainees into food production in a positive and educational way. Work with Chef/Trainer to tailor weekly production and daily menu to be in line with what trainees are learning in the classroom/kitchen. Integrate trainees into the daily production schedule in a positive and educational way. Direct production of contract meals so as to conserve nutrient values and make visually appetizing.

Ensure the preparation and delivery of contracted meals on a daily basis at the required nutritional level and standard for the youth, school-age and /or adult contracts. Oversee hot Home Delivered Meals food packaging and special diet arrangements in meal preparations. Maintain inventory lists; make shopping lists; supervise proper storage of supplies and food. Be responsible for sanitary conditions within the storage and food preparation areas, and in the transportation of food to the meal sites. Assist in classroom training, specific hands on demonstrations of class material, and administration of tests both in the classroom and on the job to measure progress. Assist with the development and implementation of all elements of the training programs and social enterprise businesses. Assist Chef/Trainer in setting training schedules for trainees based on production levels. Other duties and tasks as assigned and/or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED completion (minimum) and certificate in culinary services to include menu planning, nutrition, sanitation and safety. Consideration will be given to a combination of work experience and education which demonstrates the ability to consistently perform the duties of the position. Preference will be given to individuals who also have experience or coursework in management, administration, and/or education in other fields. Hold a Food Handlers card. Proven excellent time management skills required to manage multiple deadlines in an orderly, professional, and consistent manner. Excellent communication skills along with a great deal of patience and a passion for bringing people into the hospitality industry. Ability to communicate well in front of people. Strong proven leadership abilities and a vision for quality and excellence in food and beverage operations. Respect for and willingness to maintain high standards of confidentiality on all matters of personnel, program, personal and fiscal matters. Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours as required. Willingness to attend out-of-town meetings. Available, reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and clean driving record. No record of criminal history. Must be willing to be a positive ambassador for the Agency. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work effectively under pressure or stress. Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Ability to travel throughout the service area.
