It is the exact same thing as solving regular inequalities, except now we are using positive and negative integers!!!!! And we have one extra rule.

George says, YOU’VE DONE THIS BEFORE!!!!!!! And he still likes bananas.

Solve y + 8 < 6 How do I undo addition? - 8 < - 8 From both sides y<6–8 KCO  6 + -8 Follow addition rules!!!!! (signs are different, subtract and keep the sign of the larges value) 8 – 6 = 2 ( 8 is bigger, so it will be a -2) y < -2 -2

-5 + t ≥ -25 (how do I undo addition?) -(-5) ≥ -(-5) - 5 – (-5) becomes -5 + 5 which = 0, so we are left with just t on that side -25 – (-5) becomes -25 + 5 which = -20 So t ≥ -20 -20

Our one new rule is here, if you MULTIPLY OR DIVIDED BY A NEGATIVE NUMBER, YOU MUST FLIP THE SIGN!!!!

Solve 17b > -51 (how do I undo multiplication?) 17b > -51 17 > 17 17’s cancel out leaving just b and -51÷ 17 = -3 So b > -3 -3

k > -2 (how do I undo division?) -10 -10 · k > -2 · -10 -10 -10 and -10 cancel leaving just k and – 2 · -10 = 20 BUT!!!! Since we multiplied by a negative, my sign changes from > to < !!!!!!!!!!!! So k < 20

IF you multiply or divide by a negative #, you have to switch the sign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
