Test Report – BWT Session No. 8 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Testers: Ajay Balamurugadas, Bhargavi M, Gunjan Sethi, Parimala Shankaraiah, Sudhakar and Vasupratha. Date: 20th Sep 2009 Time: 9 PM – 11PM IST Mission: To Test the installability of Areca 7.1.5 To find problems on Performance of application. To find more usability issues. Operating System: Windows XP SP3 Professional, Windows Vista 32bit, SP1, Browser (if applicable): NA Application Name & Version: Areca 7.1.5 Link to download or URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/areca/ Notes : (Includes Test Data, Test Ideas, Investigation Notes, Questions) Parimala: 1. Multiple Installations of the software might cause a threat to existing installation as well as the data that has been backed up in previous installation. 2. Installation options page is not displayed the first time Areca is installed. But for subsequent re-installations, this page was displayed. I was unable to reproduce this issues though I cleared program files, registry, common files etc . Hide and Seek bug. Bhargavi: 1. Recover button is neither disabled .Neither when no backup file is available nor when it is available. What is this feature for? When this option does get enabled?

Observations: 2. Launching the application holds 22,996K of memory. 3. When tried to backing up three at a time (all together of file size: 85.4GB), CPU usage went upto 100% which was about 5% before doing this task.

Bugs : (With reason as to why do you think it’s a bug? Ex: Inconsistent within an application, Inconsistent when compared to most of the products etc. 1. In Preferences, Language options are not understandable. Language conventions are given in two letters. 2.

In Preferences, for date format, example format can be seen on mouse over only once. Once we click on text field, we are not able to view date format again.

3.

In Preferences, date format field is not validating dates. It is accepting any character and any length. All validations are saved in log file only. Application is not guiding user on what is preferred.

4. In Preferences, it is said that change of language requires restart. But it is not prompting to restart on saving language. 5. In Areca back up option, in Pre processing tab, scripts are added with invalid script locations. 6. New Target:Sources"Save" button does not get enabled once clicked on it. Inorder to add new files I had to close that window and open it again. 7. The Downloadable Software does not contain Version Information. This information is vital to the stakeholders to communicate or reference to during troubleshooting issues and involved in Tech Support Calls. In general, version information conveys details about what changes have gone in since the last general availability release to the customer. a. Risk: Medium b. Oracle: Inconsistency with comparable products

8.

The Desktop Shortcut icon placed on the desktop after Installation is a plain image with a White and Light Blue color combination (Desktop Short_Bug2.PNG)

9.

User is able to initiate multiple instances of the downloadable and able to install the application successfully several number of times when the product is not in open state (Multiple Instances_Bug3). a. Risk: High. Need to evaluate the impact of re-installation on existing backed up data b. Oracle: Inconsistency within the product

10.The error message displayed when Areca application is open and another installation is in progress is cryptic as it reads ‘Error opening file for writing’. Click Abort to abort installation. Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (Error_Bug4.PNG) a. Risk: High. The error message does not contain useful information to the user. The user will not know how to come out of this situation as the error message does not tell him/her what exactly he/she is doing incorrectly b. Oracle: Inconsistency within the product 11.The percentage displayed in the progress bar when Areca application is open and another installation is in progress displays 100% when the error dialog is displayed (Error_Bug4.PNG) a. Risk: Medium. The user is left confused to see the status as 100%, but the progress is still at the beginning of the progress bar. Another risk is that the percentage completion is 100% though an error was encountered which is misleading to the user. b. Oracle: Inconsistency with Claims 12. Clicking on Abort button on the Error dialog displayed when Areca application is open and another installation is in progress does not close the Installation Window (Abort_Bug5.PNG) a. Risk: Medium. Clicking on Abort does not abort the entire operation. Instead it waits for the user to explicitly close the remaining installation window. b. Oracle: Inconsistency with User Expectation Bangalore Weekend Testers Email: [email protected]

13. Clicking on Ignore button on the Error dialog displayed when Areca application is open and another installation is in progress completes the installation successfully (Ignore_Bug6.PNG) a. Risk: High. Hitting Ignore button means that that particular file/dll will not be installed. However, the application continues to work fine after this installation. Ie., an Improper installation still works fine b. Oracle: Inconsistency with Purpose 14.Installation page displays a different product name and version number (Product and Version_Bug7.PNG) a. Risk: Medium. Confusion to the user b. Oracle: Inconsistency with Image 15. User is able to delete the Areca folder at ‘C:\Program Files\Areca’ successfully a. Risk: High. If the application is currently not under use, the user should not be able to delete the Areca folder from the Program Files. This is a big risk on systems where Fast User Switching is enabled for multiple users b. Oracle: Inconsistency with Image 16. Similar Menu icon used for Areca/Check new versions/Help on Start Menu>Programs>Areca…(Start Menu options_Bug8.PNG) 17. Uninstall successful when all files are removed from Program Files folder. When I deleted the areca folder from Program Files and uninstalled the application from start menu, I get a ‘Installation successful message which is incorrect. Looks like the uninstallation is not a true uninstallation a.

Risk: High. This looks like a few messages are displayed without actually referring to removing the actual files from the disk

b. Oracle: Inconsistency with Claims 18.Incorrect Error Message displayed when user tries to uninstall areca from Add/Remove programs though it is already uninstalled from Start Menu (Uninstall_Bug9.PNG) a. Risk: Medium. User Confusion b. Oracle: Inconsistency within Product Bangalore Weekend Testers Email: [email protected]
