19th Nov 2006 - A group of Master Chew’s friends and students leaded by Master Tan Khoon Yong, the Master of Master Chew, went for an exciting one day field trip to visit the oldest burial site around Singapore. We started off at 9am and took the small mini bus to our first destination some where around Adam Road area. On the way to the cemetery, Master Tan explained to us some of the traditional burial geomancy theories; such as “Long”, “Sha”, “Shui”, “Xiang”, “Xue”. How to choose the best venue for burial from the unique geography of Singapore? What are the benefits of Burial versa Ash Urn Geomancy? How can burial geomancy affect the fortunes of descendants, etc. We were all amazed with the vase knowledge that Master Tan had with Burial Geomancy and how little knowledge we had about Yin Fengshui. In the morning, we toured one of the oldest cemeteries near Adam site which is really an eye opener for many of us who had never been there before. The place was filled with fresh air and greenery with many old tombs spread out all over the site. Some of the old tombs were completely covered by grasses while other looks new and well maintained. Master Tan was very patient in explaining to us some of the unique feature of each tomb and their history behind. How to appreciate the Chinese proverbs craved on each side of the tomb and their meaning. How to see whether the descendant has engaged a Geomancer to erect the tomb for the decease, etc…Many of us were busy taking photo and appreciating the beautiful site of the cemetery and had no time to take down notes.

With lunch time approaching, we stop by Turf city for a sumptuous lunch at Owen Seafood restaurant. After a good rest and a good lunch break, we continue our trip to Chua Chu Kang cemetery. At Chua Chu Kang cemetery, the site was really beautiful. All the tombs were lay out neatly unlike the old cemetery at Adam site that we have visited in the morning. Master Tan brought us to visit some of his “creation” which he had done for his customers. His tomb design and lay out were very unique. Master Tan explained to us the meaning behind the Snake & Lion tomb design that he had created. How to see the sitting and facing of a tomb. He also touches on how to identify a good burial site and the various criteria needed for good burial fengshui.

Next, we visited the Chua Chu Kang Ash Urn “Condominium” site. This is the place were the deceased Ashes were placed into small pigeon hole in the HDB style building. Master Tan also explained to us the Fengshui layout and the architectural design of this Chua Chu Kang cemetery.

As the day is still early, Master Tan decided to bring us to visit more unique cemetery site at Bukit Timah area. But unfortunately some of the old burial site no longer exists while others were closed and was out of bound to visitors. On our way back before we call it a day, Master Tan bring us through Orchard Road and explained to us the fengshui of various building such as CK Tang, Wheelock Place, Ngee Ann city & The Paragon. This is really another bonus for the day !!
