Description: The link to Google Maps is not available from the http://www.google.lk/ page and few other domain pages of Google. 1. Opened the instance of browser. 2. Entered the URL http://www.google.lk/ 3. Found the hypertexts – Web, Images, Group, Scholar, Blogs, Translate, Gmail, Calendar, Documents, Reader and Sites. 4. Did not find the hypertext ‘Maps’ that is available in the pages of http://www.google.com/ or http://www.google.co.in Observed Behavior: The hypertext ‘Maps’ was not available in the Google home page – http://www.google.lk/ There are also other pages like for Pakistan, Jamaica etc., where the Maps appears as not displayed or not available. Impact: If the user is using Google for the first time from the countries which does not display the hypertext ‘Maps’ from the Google local home page, might find harder to use and might be the statement go contradictory which she or he heard that Google gets results quicker when looked into. And in the other context, when the user is using the first time and Google for the first time, might be the user will have bit tougher time. By displaying the ‘Maps’ hypertext for each local domain might generate much more revenue to the Google. Investigation: The hypertext ‘Maps’ will not be available in few local domain pages that are viewable at URL http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en Entering search identifier as ‘Jamaica’ or ‘Sri Lanka’ in http://maps.google.com/maps , will navigate to respective map which was searched. To be found on opening the Google Maps page, from the geographical location – Jamaica or Sri Lanka or any other countries for which Google does not display ‘Maps’, will it open its country or go to the map of North America. If the person is opening the Google Maps from Sri Lanka or Jamaica or any other countries for which Google does not provide ‘Maps’ hypertext on Google page, should it display the local domain in the URL or should it go to default URL i.e., http://maps.google.com/ -- with this behavior are there any disadvantages, advantages, problems and no problems? If so, who will have them and what are the consequences of them? Will the user goes confused with this? Will it get the value to the user? Expected Behavior: Every local domain pages available in the Google, should have the option as page http://www.google.com has. The version of the maps displayed if available will be helpful for the user as well as Google in identifying the changes made in future or in past. Files Attached: Video files ‘Google Map Test 0’ is not available, as it was lost while the crash of hard disk. The other two video files i.e., Google Map Test 1 and Google Map Test 2 will be uploaded and available at http://www.viddler.com/explore/ravisuriya/videos/ .

Description: Unable to resize the panel which helps in getting the directions and maps of the user using ‘Get Directions’ and ‘My Maps’. 1. Opened an instance of the browser. 2. Entered the URL http://www.google.com 3. Clicked on hypertext ‘Maps’. The page ‘Google Maps’ with URL http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl was displayed. 4. Tried to resize the panel having hypertexts, ‘Get Directions’ and ‘My Maps’ in the place which appeared to be as title bar of the panel. 5. Clicked on that looked as icon – “<<” with screen tool tip ‘Hide panel’. Observed that displayed panel in step_4 was not available on the being viewed map in Google Maps. Clicked on “>>” which had a screen tool tip ‘Show panel’. Observed the panel which not displayed, was displayed now. Observed Behavior: It was not possible to resize the panel said above, so that user can had comfort in using the Google Maps. It was possible to hide and bring back the panel again clicking on “<<” and “>>” respectively. Impact: If the user is using 15 inch monitor, user might feel not comfort when she or he is unable to resize the panel width instead of hiding it as the user thinks it is needed for the task that is being done with Google Maps. Each time user has to hide and unhide the panel – could this be annoying when the mouse work is bit more in moving maps so that the map desired to view is viewable comfortably? What If user needs to do it for moving displayed maps through mouse instead of hiding the panel when the network bandwidth being used is slow or too slow? Also in the scenario though 19 inch or 21 inch screen is available, and user feels that panel should have resizable provided good network bandwidth, is the user valued here? Will this benefit the user? Has this affect on the revenue and an advantage to competitor? Investigation: It was not possible to resize the panel. But it was possible to hide and unhide it on hiding. Looking at it through 19 inch and 17 inch did not make much difference in the usability and comfort when the user was unable to resize the panel. Expected Behavior: By providing the feature of resizing the panel, will give the comfort to the user in using the Google Maps. And it will increase the usability of Google Maps. Description: Unable to move the GUI objects that helps in navigating and using the map, which are displayed in Google Map. 1. Opened an instance of the browser. 2. Entered the URL http://www.google.com 3. Clicked on hypertext ‘Maps’. The page ‘Google Maps’ with URL http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl was displayed. 4. Tried to move the GUI objects – Pan for moving up, down, left and right, Show My Location and Zoom In and Zoom Out, that appeared to be available on the top of the being viewed map. 5. Was unable to move the above said GUI objects and it looked like they were stagnant and stuck to the same place. Observed Behavior: The GUI objects said above did not move across the region of map in Google Map by user on trying to move them using mouse. Impact: This behavior might have the same impact which is said in bug id TG000002. User can get annoyed with this unmovable option of those GUI objects when the being used screen to see the map is small. Investigation: All those GUI objects said seemed to be functional when used it. It remained in the same position of the screen. Sometime user needed to move the being viewed map to right or left or up or down, as this GUI objects appeared to be above them. If an option given like this GUI objects going as transparent or the opacity of this objects is adjustable might help the user. Does providing this feature will increase the usability of Google Map? Expected Behavior: The GUI objects said in current report, are movable across the screen of the being viewed map in Google Map will be helpful to user. And might add comfort to the user in using Google Map. Files Attached: Video files ‘Google Map Test 0’ is not available, as it was lost while the crash of hard disk. Bug Advocacy for bugs in Google Maps

ID: TG000004 P: 1 S: 2 Reproducibility: Yes Related Bug ID: TG000002, TG000003 Description: Text displayed at the bottom of the displayed map was not viewable completely and was difficult to read them when background data too is of black-in-color which was also the color of text. 1. Opened an instance of the browser. 2. Entered the URL http://www.google.com 3. Clicked on hypertext ‘Maps’. The page ‘Google Maps’ with URL http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl was displayed. 4. Observed the text at the bottom of the map being viewed. The text appeared to be with the characters of English language with black-in-color font. 5. Moving the map around i.e., left, right, up, down, zoom in and zoom out, inferred that the text displayed changed its content. 6. The content of this were not visible completely in its length, during the few navigation said in step_5. And, also it was visible clearly when the background of the text had or appeared to be with characters which had black-in-color font. Observed Behavior: The complete text were not visible for few navigation and also was not visible when the back ground had text or other object with black-in-color or when appeared to black-in-color or with the relative contrast and brightness of black-in-color. Work Around: User needed to hide the panel by clicking on “<<” to view the complete text displayed at the bottom of the map being viewed, provided the background of the text did not have black-in-color or relative contrast objects. And navigate the map such that a background property does not have or appears to have contrast relative to or black-in-color. Impact: This might cause the annoyance to the user. And the names displayed in the text characters at bottom of the map are the one who helped to provide the details, then they are not getting noticed clearly due the length of content, color of the text, non-resizable pane and with background objects having black-in-color or relative contrast properties. Will this get the value to the user and for whoever contributed by providing details of the map? What if the network bandwidth is down during this scenario? What does the user need to do – can user sustain and tolerate these behaviors? Will this provide the edge to the competitor in using their products for looking into map, if any such exist and available? Investigation: The text size in length kept increasing and decreasing as and when the user navigated across the map. The font color of the text appeared to be black and it was not visible when the background object had or appeared to be with relative property and contrast of black-in-color. Hided panel and looked complete contents of the lengthy text. This was observed with feature ‘Map’ being chosen in Google Maps. Needed to verify how it behaves when other features Satellite and Terrain is chosen.
