Ms. Wendy Chan Attorney Recruiting and Development Coordinator Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP 11377 W. Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90064 Dear Ms. Chan, I am a rising second year law student at American University Washington College of Law and am interested in becoming a summer associate with Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP. After reading about everything the firm has to offer, I became very interested with everything your office has to offer. My background shows that I am a motivated worker and work extremely hard to achieve my goals. Starting off as an unrecruited freshman walk-on at UCLA and eventually earning a spot on the travel roster shows this point. About only half of the team made the travel roster each year, and there were not even enough spots on this roster to include all of the scholarship players. Being a walk-on and beating out scholarship players was an arduous task that taught me the work necessary to achieve goals. Being on the football team and all of the time constraints that came with it taught me necessary time management skills and how to work efficiently. After struggling to adapt in my first year, I acquired the skills necessary to succeed in the classroom and made the Dean’s List every quarter from my sophomore to my senior year. I was also the only member on the team my senior season to win the Athletic Director’s Academic Excellence Award, awarded only to seniors in intercollegiate athletics who achieved Director’s Honor Roll every season while enrolled at UCLA. Football taught me the skills necessary to be able to handle with adverse situations. Situations on the football field are not predictable and force players to use creative reasoning to determine the best course of action when something does not go as planned. My ability to handle adverse situations has helped me overcome the struggles as a first year law student. I did not fully understand how to be successful on a law school exam despite knowing the information. After speaking with professors and assessing where I could improve, I was able to excel in my second semester. It is this work ethic that I would bring to Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP. My leadership skills are exemplified by not only my experience on the football field but also in the law school classroom. I have a desire to take on a challenge and see it through to its completion. My involvement with the Sports and Entertainment Law Society has greatly enhanced my desire to practice entertainment law. During this upcoming semester I will be taking trademark law in order to gain a greater understanding of issues that are presented through entertainment law. Thank you again for considering my application for a summer associate position within the Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely, Brian Rubinstein
