Head Slow nod – interested in what you’re saying Fast nod – I’ve heard enough, let me speak now Head Tilt – interest in what one is listening/seeing. *submissive gesture commonly used by women to show interest in conversation/company *When you tilt your head while speaking, audience will trust your words more like politicians/leaders

Scratching hair – confusion Scratching/slapping forehead – forgot/mental discomfort

Shoulder Shrug – don’t know/care *Raising both shoulders sharply is a good indication of truth otherwise it lacks commitment/insecurity

Raise shoulder & chin down – protect themselves (no confidence in what they heard or said) Attraction shrug – raises a shoulder, turning and tilting head towards it, sometimes touching the chin or side of face.

Arms Crossing – defensiveness (shyness/uneasiness/insecurity) *Crossing of arms accompanied by clenching indicates hostility *Crossing of arms accompanied by gripping biceps indicates excessive defensiveness (scared/insecure) *Crossing of arms symmetrically indicates submissive but slight tilt or twist indicates dominance

Partial arm cross – create comfort feelings in stressful situation. The higher the grip, the more defensive. *Placement of the cup/drink can indicate comfort of the other person, depending on the dominance of their hand.

Hands Fingertips together (steeple) – confidence. Subtle finger tips together (steeple) – not-so-confident confident

Clenching – self-restraint usually about anxiety/frustration *The higher the clench while standing, the more negative *Clasping hands over abdomen/crotch suggests aware vulnerability but required to display confidence/respect *Clasping hands behind back suggests confidence/security *Clasping wrist/arm behind the back suggests self-restraint on negative reaction (crossing of arms but behind the back)

Clasping hand behind head (elbow outward) – confident (know it all) Clasping hand behind head (elbow inward) – disbelief/surprise

Palms Fast rub – positive expectation Slow rub – doubt Rubbing thighs – stressed/nervous Hiding palms – could indicates self-image issues

Neck Rubbing back of neck – frustrated/anger Scratching side of neck – believe they’ve done something wrong/immoral/embarrassing Touching neck dimple – insecure/uncomfortable/distressed

Face Scratching eyebrow with index finger – interesting Adjusting glasses – interesting

Hips Generally means ready for action Clenched – assertive + hostile Palms resting on hips – assertive + inquisitive

Thumbs in belt/pockets – sexual aggressive/dominant

Legs Twine – shy/timid Jiggling/tapping feet – anxious/excitement
