Spelman Blueprint Conferen ce for Middle & High School Girls

The Boston Area Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College will host the 3rd Annual Middle and High School Girls Conference to provide Boston girls with a forum for open, honest dialogue between themselves and positive female role models. As an outstanding historically Black college for women, Spelman empowers women to create positive social change with the support of a strong network and sisterhood. Through the Conference’s inception in March 2007, this Chapter and Conference has been able to provide that same network and sisterhood for girls in the Boston community.

WHAT IS THE CONFERENCE ABOUT & WHAT WILL THE WORKSHOP TOPICS INCLUDE? o The theme is: “A Better Me”  The Conference will challenge participants to identify areas of improvement in which they would like to see a different and better side of themselves, such as being an even better sister, daughter, student, citizen and friend.  Workshop Topics include: • Real Talk about relationships, sisterhood, and sex** • Mental Health** • Self-Esteem** • Keynote Speaker ** Girls will be separated by age (middle school and high school)and age appropriate discussion will take place.



Breakfast, Lunch, and gifts will be provided



WHEN & WHERE WILL THE CONFERENCE TAKE PLACE? o Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 9 am-3 pm o Harvard University Graduate School of Education Longfellow Hall 13 Appian Way Cambridge, MA 02138



WHO IS THE CONFERENCE FOR? o 30 Boston Public middle school girls o 30 Boston Public high school girls



HOW MUCH DOES THE CONFERENCE COST AND HOW DO I SIGN-UP? o Complete & mail the attached pre-registration postmarked no later than Friday, May 22nd  Mail to: Laina N. Cox 36 Edwin St. Dorchester, MA 02124 o Complete the pre-registration online at: www.naascboston.org o Accepted participants will be notified by Friday, May 29th (Applications accepted on a first come-first served basis)  If accepted, please bring $15 to conference with you to cover registration costs, along, with signed application (if under 18) o Contact Laina Cox ([email protected]) with any questions
