A suffix is a word ending that changes the use of a word. To add a suffix to a word that ends with a final silent e, drop the e if the suffix begins with a vowel. Keep the e if the suffix begins with a consonant. Blue List Pattern for List:

Final /ər/. Words pertaining to people tend to end with either -er or –or. Examples: baker and governor. Adjectives are -er (comparison) or –ar. Examples: bigger and rectangular.
