Birthday Sermon Sannothuan 3/7/08 Introduction: Why do you celebrate your birthday? There are the most two important people we should at least give thanks at our birthday: The first person is: God - Birthday is a time to remember who you are - You are made lower than God. Psa. 8:3 ¶ When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; Psa. 8:4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Psa. 8:5 ¶ Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. o whose you are. o Psa. 127:3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. o You are the son of the King of kings. o You are defined not by others and not by your success but by God. - Birthday is a time to count God’s blessings in your life. o Job 1:21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” o You came out of your mother’s womb with a naked body. Now, you have all these things. The second persons are: your parents o Birthday is a time to say thanks and honor to our presents as well. Why? Because they are the hands of God to take care of you in this world. • Eph. 6:2 “Honor your father and mother”—this is the first commandment with a promise: How do you honor your parents? • Present a gift for them. o The best present that you can ever give to your parents is Obedience. o Col. 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is your acceptable duty in the Lord. o In everything, not sinful (Act 5:29). Duty of parents: o Eph. 6:4 And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Conclusion:
