Izvorul Muntelui lake, also known as Lake Bicaz, is an artificial accumulation, created after Izvorul Muntelui Dam was built, on the upper course of the Bistrita River. It is the largest artificial lake on the Romanian rivers and supplies it with Bicaz-Stejaru hydroelectric power station, which was put into operation in 1960. At the beginning of each spring, with the melting of snow, plastic wastes are trained on the minor courses of the lake and on its banks. All plastic waste are gathering downstream and lead to a desolate image of the water glare near the Bicaz Dam and tourists who come to admire the natural landscape have an unpleasant surprise because of the tens of thousands of pet floating .These plastic waste are left by tourist who come to the area, both on the territory of the Neamt county and in Suceava, and they come downstream from the Bistrita River and its affluent. At the same time, some of the pets are also thrown by locals from the communes situated upstream of the Bicaz dam. Every year, 60.000 euros are spent for grenning, only for Izvorul Muntelui lake. There are funds allocated by Hidroelectrica and economic agents who need the place clean to attract tourists. Since the beginning of this year, Hidroelectrica claims the garbage, making sustained and constant efforts to ecologize the Izvorul Muntelui lake and its own dam. According to Hidroelectrica, the company has also collected, since the beginning of the spring 2018, 37 tons of wood, 15 tons of pet and 3 tons of other waste, on its own expense. The fond cause ramains further unresolved: tourists keep to throw the garbage in forbidden places, while authorities assist. No one takes firm :no fines are applyed to the culprits, there are no picnic or leisure places, no waste is collected.
