World Federation Society of Anaesthesiologists sponsored CME in Anaesthesiology, S.N. CME on pain management and ultrasound imaging of peripheral nerves was organized on 2 nd August 2008 by Department of Anaesthesiology, Department of Radiology and ISA Belgaum City Branch, Belgaum, delivered a lecture on the subject of “Clonidine for postoperative pain managementpharmacologic considerations”. PG lecture on ‘‘Peri-operative coagulation problems and blood conservation’’ for PG students in the Department of Anaesthesiology on 6th November 2008. CME Anaesthesiology held at S.N. Medical College, Bagalkot on 8th and 9th November 2008, delivered Guest lecture on the topic: ‘Peri-operative coagulation problems and blood conservation’ and chaired a session: ‘Recent guidelines on CPR’ Delivered a Guest lecture on ‘Clonidine and its anaesthetic uses’ at Gulbarga on 16th November 2008. Hands on training workshop on CPBR (cardiopulmonary brain resuscitation) for KLE Institute of Dental Sciences Physiotherapy internees- conducted sessions on 28th October 2007 in the department of anaesthesiology, KLE’s Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC, Belgaum. Attended the Workshop entitled “DESIGN & ANALYSIS OF RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIALS” on 3rd & 4th December 2007 in the Department of Medical Education (DOME), J.N. Conducted Hands on Training Workshop on BLS and ACLS (Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support) in the Department of Anaesthesiology on 24th August 2008 to Interns of KLE Institute of Physiotherapy. Conducted workshop at Mangalore Medical College on the eve of 24th SZ ISACON – 2008 from 18th to 20th September 2008 at Mangalore. The topic was ‘Anaesthesia Machine’. Nearly 40 postgraduate students from all over the state to attended the workshop. It was conducted in two sessions. One in the morning and other in the afternoon. The proceedings were highly appreciated by the delegates. Orientation Program organized by the University Department of Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP), KLE University on 21st and 22nd November 2008. Institute of Medical Sciences, Davangere. Presented the paper on the topic: “Anaesthesia for off pump CABG”. CME Anaesthesiology held at S.N. Medical College, Bagalkot on 8th and 9th November 2008. Dr. Nitish Desai Post Graduate student presented A free paper entitle was presented under the able guidance of Dr.V.K. Dhulkhed on the topic: ‘Efficacy of winged laryngoscope blade in cleft lip children’ during South Zone Conference SZ ISACON, Mangalore – Annual conference of South Zone ISA held at Kasturba Medical College Hospital on 18th to 20th September 2008 at Mangalore.The paper won the First prize and was selected to represent the south zone in the National conference of ISA 2008 to be held in Jodhpur.

The national health program “Life Saving Anesthetic Skills for Medical Officers” to reduce maternal mortality is a prestigious program and it is a matter of pride that specialty of anaesthesia is taking a front line place in public health and our department recognized as one of the training centre in the state at the outset of the program one batch already completed program. I was examiner for the trainees in the examination conducted at State Institute of Family Welfare in Bangalore conducted on 10th & 11th September 2007. The following medical officers appeared for examination- Dr. Venkataraju, Dr. Jagdish, Dr. S.S. Gaded, Dr. Sanjay Kamble. All the four medical officers have passed and one of the medical officer secured 2nd place to the State. I was paper setter for MD and DA in Anaesthesiology of Bharathiya Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune 2007. I was examiner for MD and DA in Anaesthesiology of Pravara Rural University, Loni, Maharastra on 1st and 2nd January 2008. I was appointed as Question Paper setter (Theory) in the subject of MD in Anaesthesiology for University, Tamil Nadu, examinations to be held in April 2008.

In-charge of cardiothoracic Anesthesia at KLES Heart Foundation, conducting Post Doctoral Course in Cardiac Anesthesia and Intensive Care Co-ordinator for Training of MBBS doctors in “Life Saving Anaesthetic Skills” conducted by State Institute of Health & Family welfare, Government of Karnataka. Presentation of departmental profile to the UGC Committee in KLE University, Belgaum. Appointed as Co-ordinator for Fellowship in Cardiac Anaesthesiology by KLE University, Belgaum. Presentation of Case in Clinical meeting conducted by JNMC Scientific Society by Dr. V.K. Dhulkhed –“Management of a special case of tracheal stenosis posted for tracheal reconstruction” on 16th May 2007. The following papers presented under guidance of Dr. V.K. Dhulkhed in the 22nd Annual Karnataka State Conference ‘KISACON 2007’ was organized by the Bangalore Branch of ISA & was held at NIMHANS convention centre, Bangalore on 3rd & 4th November 2007: i) “Randomized placebo controlled double blind trial to study one effectiveness of 0.7 mg/kg of intravenous ketamine in the prevention of post operative shivering in the patients under general anaesthesia’ by Dr. Kshipra PG student ii) “A study of Haemo dynamic changes following intravenous induction with propofol and Ad mixture of propofol and thiopentone” A randomized clinical trial by Dr. Jitendra PG student iii) “Intravenous ketamine for repractomy intra-operative broncho spasm – A case report by Dr. Greeshman PG student International Conference on Anaesthesia for Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery on 19th & 20th April 2008:

‘Use of special winged laryngoscope blade’ designed and was presented by Dr. V. K. Dhulkhed and won the first prize in the free paper session during the conference, on the topic: ‘Clinical evaluation of the efficacy of modified laryngoscope blade for endotracheal intubation in a cleft lip child – A case series. Presented ‘Clonidine its use in Anaesthesia practice’ at the Reliance Web World, Belgaum on 19th July 2008. This presentation was be followed by ‘interactive session’. The program involves 7 centers all over South India connected through Web World. This is a prestigious event for the Department of Anaesthesiology. The program is sponsored by Neon Laboratories.
