A BIRD’S EYEVIEW OF BIOCHEMISTRY Biochemistry is the chemistry of life. Biochemists study the molecules and chemical reactions catalyzed by enzymes that take place in all living organisms. Biochemistry and related Biological sciences (Biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, etc...) are upcoming fields, which have attracted the attention of the world, following the IT boom, which has subsided to a considerable extent. Biochemistry is the basis of all life sciences. It deals with the study of all the basic biomolecules and the various biochemical reactions they undergo in the physiological system. The study of these reactions (metabolic reactions), makes us understand and appreciate not only our physiology, but also those of all the organisms co-existing with us in our biosphere. In other words, Biochemistry forms the alphabets of the life sciences language, and thereby has carved a niche for itself as one of the forerunners among the different branches of life sciences. The importance of biological sciences is increasing by leaps and bounds by the day. It is therefore very much essential have a basic foundation in these areas for better understanding of life and life forms around us.
