Binh Phuoc Trip

Day 1: - Arrived at 12am, ready for the first training section in the afternoon - Reachec AEC BP (Trung tâm khuyến nông tỉnh Bình Phước), after waiting for half of hour, received phone call from Mr Bao, apologize that he can not make the meeting today --> angry! Đúng như lời anh Khôi căn dặn trước. Làm việc với họ, phải dự trù đi thêm 1 ngày, không khiếu chỗ này, cũng từ chối lúc kia, chờ em chỗ này, đợi em chỗ kia cũng hết nửa ngày. Thở dài ngao ngán. Day 2: - Conduct training with Mr Bao. One hard working day and good work done - Negotiate with PMB (Ban Quản Lý dự án) to get permission for rep of Winrock Org to visit our farmers within the project. Such a pain! Chỉ tại vì Bình Phước gần cái biên giới quá, vùng nhạy cảm nên đoàn nước ngoài nào lên làm việc cũng gặp khó khăn. Gọi hết Phòng ngoại giao, đến UB tỉnh, thương lượng, trình bày (chỉ thiếu gào thét) Phù , cuối cùng cũng xong. OK - Tự thưởng bằng một chầu sầu riêng. Trái to hái từ vườn nông dân, đi làm việc được lòng dân, ăn trái cây phải gọi là đã đời ông địa. Tiền Giang Bến Tre thì toàn cam bưởi măng cut... Bà Rịa thì mang tiêu về hầm bò. Lần này đến BP được thiết đãi bằng sầu riêng, trái loại hảo hạng nhất. TUYỆT - Karaoke giải trí, không ngờ vùng cao thế này cũng có giải trí vui phết. THÍCH Day 3: - We were all free in the morning to have some coffee coz Dr Param and Dr Phuoc (NLUni) arrived in the afternoon. . After breakfast and coffee, I decided back to the hotel to do some more work. Turned on TV, did some maps for Ben Tre fruit fair, and looked around, bored! Took a picture from my room’s windows. Still bored.

Day 4: Thẳng tiến lên Lâm Đồng Hình 4: Rừng xưa đã khép

Visit Mrs Thu’s project site (200ha with more than 10 soil types) These are the two most interesting soil: 1. We called purple soil: rich in inorganic matter easy to break down and on intensive weathering. This soil can be grinded and sold as fertilizer hehe, coz it can act as NPK) 2. The combination of volcano ash and Ferralsols. The volcano magma came after the weathered Ferrasols. That’s why there are many rocks (see pic) on top of weathered soil.

We are all impressed by her project. It is so challenging to turn very bad land into a sustainable agriculture system. Both Dr Param and Dr Phuoc are interested in the concept of this project. Only surface water will be used for irrigation. Therefore, initial phase of setting up dams and drainage system is extremely important which need careful surveying and planning. Zoning for growing crops are also important given the complexity of soil types and topography. We wish her all the best, for her hard work, challenge, and ambition. Day 5: Nghỉ mát Đà Lạt, hít thở khí trời mát mẻ (only 1 short night as we reached Da Lat at 8pm and breakfast with coffee in the morning) However, it is great enough!
