The Kingdom Its not easy getting to the movies when you have kids. Most of our dvd collection includes such gripping dramas as “Thomas the Tank Engine goes to the Island of Sodor”. But because my wife is leaving us to go to Singapore for 4 days of credit card hurting, I got a free pass to go see a movie with the ‘lads’. We went and saw a great movie called “The Kingdom” starring the surprisingly good actor, Jamie Fox. It is an incredibly violent movie about terrorism, hostages, American response and other ‘deep issues’ If you can handle the violence, I encourage you to see it, it makes you think. Afterwards, the lads and I discussed what on earth we could do about the trouble overseas. Our response was, not much. But what we did agree upon was that we could either let the hopelessness of overseas conflict overwhelm us, or we could do something local. Our church has welcomed refugees into our church family. We also support local community works. I encourage you to never let fear rule your life, instead make positive, life affirming choices for the world you live in.

Cheers Pastor Mark Edwards

Toddler Jam Christmas DVD Kaylene will be taking photo’s over the next month for our . Please let her know if you do not wish for your child to be photographed. Dear Aunty Jasmine Recently I took my children to the Royal Show, it was hard because it was a continuous day of “wants”. Children are happier when they learn to be thankful. Envy is a perpetual wanting more. Related to envy, entitlement is when someone feels as if people owe him things or special treatment simply because he exists. The opposite of entitlement & envy is gratitude. Gratitude & envy have little to do with what the person actually receives, but rather the heart attitude or character of the person. The balance of gratification & frustration tempers the extremes of neediness & entitlement. In order to give your child balance you must gratify some needs and some wants, and frustrate others. Expressing gratitude is an important aspect of development. Envious people think they deserve everything, but in the end have nothing. Envy is basically pride. The envious are those who want more but get less. The grateful are those who are thankful for what they already have, and receive more. So help your child become a grateful person.
