Derived Quantities

The purpose : 1. Able to mention the derived quantities 2. Able to give the example of derived quantities 3. Able to determine the volume of solid

Derived quantities are quantities derived from basic quantities Several examples of derived quantities Area Volume Velocity Density

Square meters Cubic meters meters per second

m2 m3 m/s

Kilograms per cubic meters Kg/m3

Area is derived quantity which is obtained by multiplying two length quantities Volume , similar to area, volume is also derived of basic quantities. That is the product Of three length quantities Solids which have uniform shape such as Cube, volume can be calculated by using Certain formula.

Meanwhile solids which have non uniform Shape such as stone, its volume can be calculated directly.

How the methods a.Fill the measuring glass with wather

It is called initial volume

b. Then, put a stone that will be measured into the measuring glass

The volume of water and the stone are called the final volume

So, the volume of stone = final volume – initial volume

CONCLUSION • Derived quantities are quantities derived from basic quantities. • Example : area (m2), volume (m3), velocity (m/s), density(kg/m3),etc • The vollume of thing = length x length x length, and can be measured using a measuring glass
