Project Description: Design and construction of a new wrap around stadium: steel framed metal/bridge clad structure with precast single tier concrete decking and seating with a translucent sloping roof. Integral concourse, club facilities, offices, hospitality boxes and suites, changing rooms and support accommodation. Pitch formation, landscaping, site works and infrastructure works for stadium access.

Redevelopment of Craven Cottage for Fulham FC

Project: Stadium Redevelopment, Craven Cottage, Fulham Client: Harrods/ Fulham Football Club Design Team: Barr Technical Services Seating Capacity: 22,000 seats Project Description: The project involved the complete renovation of the existing Hammersmith and Putney ends of the ground. At the Putney End, this involved the erection of a new steel frame and roof to allow the installation of new seating units. The Hammersmith Stand involved the installation of strip foundations to support the new seating deck and the erection of steelwork to support the seating in the rear of the stand. A portion of the existing roof was retained and extended to cover the new seating deck. New hospitality units have also been installed. Underneath both stands replacement blockwork for enhanced toilet facilities and concourses have also been installed. New seating has also been installed in the Enclosure of the Stevenage Road stand. The remaining Riverside and Stevenage Road stands have also been extensively refurbished. Contract Value: £4.5 million

Project Description: The project involved the construction of a new grandstand at Perth Racecourse completed in less than four months. In addition to the terracing deck the facility includes a downstairs bookmaker’s hall and bar with an upstairs restaurant and function room offering views of the finishing line.

Project Description: Barr has just completed a new West Stand for Leyton Orient Football Club (shown above). This stand comprises substantial office accommodation and allows space for the construction of residential development in the corner areas. Barr previously constructed the South Stand (below) and renovated the existing East Stand. Contract included fitting out of concourse area for family room and community offices, along with concurrent safety improvement works to the North Terrace and East Stand with a conversion of existing terracing to seated area.

Design and construction of new wrap-round spectator stands within an overall masterplan for a complete spectator bowl. Includes level internal and external concourses, achieving access for wheelchairs disabled. Complete with all facilities for spectators comfort and ease of circulation. New floodlights to be roof mounted on new stand. Transformation of the existing facilities into a modern football stadium was completed within 7 months.

Project Description: Two major phases of the redevelopment of Celtic Park to achieve an all-seated stadium capacity of 60,000 spectators. Both phases were constructed within the restrictions of a fully operational football stadium, providing a total of 25,300 seats plus all the necessary toilets, refreshment areas and safety features required for a modern stadium including a new stadium control facility. Additional floors provided will potentially accommodate quality offices, hospitality/banquet facilities, leisure club and hotel. Contract Value: £12 million

Project Description: In 1995 Barr provided Hibernian Football Club with two new double-tiered stands complete with luxury hospitality facilities and office accommodation. This was followed by a contract to level the famous Easter Road sloping pitch during the close season of 2000 and, in 2001, by the new two-tier west stand, a six month project including hospitality suites, press suites, boardroom, players’ accommodation, gymnasium, treatment room and various refreshment bars.

Two New Stands for Dundee Football Club

Project Description: Two new 3,000 seat stands, complete with toilets and refreshment kiosks, plus stadium control room were constructed in 84 Days. The works involved the removal of existing terracings and construction of retaining walls prior to construction of the new stands to suit future regrading of the playing surface. External concourses were created to improve crowd control and circulation within an extremely restrictive site. Contract Value: £2.5 million

Reconstruction of Kilmarnock Football Club

Project Description: The comprehensive redevelopment of Rugby Park has provided an 18,000 all-seater stadium incorporating the construction of three new stands, reseating and recladding of the main stand and erection of new turnstiles, boundary walling, segregation fencing and floodlighting. The new stands include toilets, refreshment kiosks, disabled facilities and new facilities for police, ambulance and stewarding. The distinctive trussed columns and roof trusses were by Barr Steel, with precast concrete steps by Solway Precast. The redevelopment was carried out within one football season

Stadium Redevelopment Portsmouth

Project Description: Barr is preferred bidder for the redevelopment of Fratton Park. Phase One involves the addition of a new stand followed by a ninety degree rotation of the pitch during the close season. This will be followed by the extension of the current east and west stands during the following season. The new stadium is just part of an overall £90M scheme at Portsmouth which includes housing, leisure and retail development. This scheme will all be planned, designed, programmed and organised within the Barr Group.

New Stand for Livingston Football Club

Project Description: All-seater stand with hospitality facilities. Construction was steel frame with precast seating units. The outer skin of the building was prefinished blockwork to match existing, with cladding to upper areas of the stand and a projecting roof to cover all seated areas. The facilities include a hospitality area to seat 200 people, with hardwood dance floor, fitted bar and dedicated kitchen. An office and changing areas for the existing 5-a-side outdoor soccer facilities are provided, together with public toilets. Work on the project was completed within the contract duration of 20 working weeks.

Project Description:

Construction of two new 3,000 spectator stands and the refurbishment of an existing standing enclosure with installation of seating. Restricted access to the site and the proximity of adjacent commercial premises and houses presented particular project constraints. During the removal of the terraces the existing fill material was monitored and, as a consequence, gas impermeable membranes and venting system were introduced. The stands were detailed in the context of an ambitious strategy for the overall development of the stadium and features have been incorporated to facilitate future extensions.

New Stands for St. Mirren Football Club

Project Description: The new West Stand provides indoor leisure facilities - cafe, two five-a-side football halls, aerobics hall, general purpose sports halls and associated changing facilities, sauna, solaria and steam room. It also incorporates toilets, refreshment kiosks, a police control room and disabled facilities. The structural steel frame with externally expressed columns and cantilevered roof trusses is by Barr Steel. All precast concrete work associated with floors, stairs and steppings are by Solway Precast. The existing East Stand concrete terracings were reprofiled to create a new seating deck complete with new roof canopy. Ancillary toilets and refreshment kiosks including specialised facilities for wheelchair disabled were also provided.

Project Description: Demolition of existing stand and construction of new 1,500-seater stand to part of the south touchline, capable of future modular extension. The stand accommodates new club facilities, including changing rooms, offices, boardroom and hospitality suite in addition to toilet and catering facilities for the spectators. Car parking and concoursing to the rear has improved facilities and access for disabled spectators and the emergency services.

Project Description Design and Construction of a new 10,000seat stadium for Airdrie FC. Four spectator stands with refreshment serveries and toilets; pitch formation, floodlighting, car parking and vehicular accesses, plus associated road junctions. Enabling works also involved ground consolidation, piling and services diversions, in addition to amendment and upgrading of adjacent public football facilities. The main stand provides players’ facilities, gymnasium, crèche, restaurant/ lounges, hospitality suites and viewing boxes, directors’ accommodation and facilities for emergency services. Contract Value: £5.3 million

Project Description: Stark’s Park presented particular problems imposed by the constraints of topography, tight site boundaries and restricted access. The project involved the removal of standing terracings to the north, south and west sides of the ground and the construction of new stands at each end, plus a new stand to part of the west side to extend seated accommodation. The layout of spectator concourses and circulation around the ground was developed to improve access and crowd control. All stands provide toilet and refreshment facilities and are fitted with the safety features necessary for a modern football stadium. A new floodlighting system was installed to provide 1200 lux at the playing surface. Contract Value: £2.46 million

Project Description: The design and construction of a stand extension at Wycombe’s Adams Park. The project involved an additional deck being fitted to the rear of an existing stand with the erection of a new roof (project shown under construction). The completed stand brings the total capacity for the East Stand up to 2,000.
