Baroness Thompson PSY430 Ethics in Psychology Module 5_Assignment 2 Chemical Dependency

Chemical Dependency

Alcoholism is a very malign disease. This disease affects all members of a family. Young children learn how to keep their feelings inside. They learn how to be young codependents. The spouse or partner is affected greatly. Families succumb to codependency, and follow the dependents behavior. People that suffer from alcohol may believe they are fine. While the ingestion of alcohol is, by definition, necessary to develop alcoholism, the use of alcohol does not predict the development of alcoholism. It is estimated that 9% of the general population is pre disposed to alcoholism based on genetic factors. My mother and father suffered from drug abuse. Although, I don’t to talk about it, my sister is following there roles. My childhood was a malign calamity. As a child, I looked for love. I knew if my mother was drunk or high. I didn't get along with my sister because of her abuse As an adult, I had validated my role as the youngest child. I was the Mascot in my family. I would always find a

joke in the mist of dysfunctions. I believe outpatient

treatment, should have a program for the family. When an Individual is accepted to a treatment program, the family is happy. Nevertheless, the family has to learn how to communicate effectively, without the Co dependency role. Alcoholism varies greatly from person to person. In addition, although the biological mechanisms underpinning alcoholism are uncertain, some risk factors. Many people suffer from Dipsomania which could defined as a preoccupation with, or

compulsion toward the consumption of, alcohol and/or an impaired ability to recognize the negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption. I found several local in patient and drug treatment centers for Alcoholism. This facility can may help an individual for 30, 60 and 90n day’s. There is a very extensive program to help an individual suffering from substance abuse. The surroundings in this particular treatment program are very relaxing. This surrounding has a calming effect on the resident. The treatment program accepts various insurance polices. The resident has the option to change facility. This is very positive community option for the resident. The Able to Change Recovery Treatment facility is a Blue cross Cigna and Aretha approved drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This facility also has financing for person that is financially challenged. Able to change Treatment center is completely different from Traditional Mental-health treatment. In closing, The Solano county local mental health is based in Solano County. This clinic is located near Napa State hospital. Their services are very hard to receive. The have too many patents. There is only one Psychologist on site. Once a person has completed intake with a clinician the process is very slow. There is a crisis center next to the mental health facility. If a client becomes suicidal, they are admitted. The informed consent states this process. The mental health clinic is in poor condition. The staff is very derogatory. These negatives were apparent when I visited the clinic. This experience would be very different one from an alcohol treatment program.
